Job Description

Job Description About the Role

Step into a core role on a world-class steelmaking maintenance team. As a Mechanical Maintenance Technician, you’ll keep critical production equipment online in a heavy industrial setting. You’ll work with standard and specialty tools, operate and support mobile and lifting equipment (including pendant/overhead cranes and forklifts), and ensure continuous operation by installing, maintaining, repairing, and operating a wide range of mechanical systems.

A Day in the Life

You arrive for your 8-hour rotating shift, suit up with PPE, review work orders, and prioritize tasks with the team. One moment you’re diagnosing a hydraulic leak on a mill stand; the next, you’re replacing a power transmission component on a conveyor or assisting operations during a critical run. You may climb to service equipment at height, enter a confined space with proper permitting, or respond to an equipment alert in a hot, wet, or noisy area of the plant. At times, you’ll work independently with minimal supervision; at others, you’ll collaborate with fellow technicians to return assets to service quickly and safely.

What You’ll Do

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical systems and equipment: hydraulics, pneumatics, lubrication systems, power transmission, conveyors, cranes, and mobile equipment.
  • Operate and support tools and equipment including pendant/overhead cranes and forklifts.
  • Assist production operations as needed to maintain throughput and quality.
  • Work at heights and/or in confined spaces as required by the task.
  • Adapt to varying conditions across plant areas—hot, cold, dirty, greasy, wet, and noisy.
  • Work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision.

Schedule & Expectations

  • 8-hour rotating shifts, including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
  • Overtime as needed to meet operational demands.
  • Reliability matters: punctuality, consistent attendance, and self-direction are essential.

Safety First

Safety is our core value. You will follow all procedures and wear required PPE at all times, including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective clothing, and boots with metatarsal protection. Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) is a daily discipline.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least 1 year of manufacturing and/or industrial experience (including relevant military experience) or equivalent education. Experience may include any of the following: hydraulics, pneumatics, lubrication, power transmission, welding, pipefitting, structural repair, or diesel mechanic.
  • Must pass assessment test(s).
