Vice President of Retail
Location: 100% On-Site | Corporate Headquarters in Edina, MN
Compensation: $200,000–$300,000 base salary + comprehensive benefits and paid time off
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer and Executive Leadership Team

About the Role
The Vice President of Retail will lead and scale all retail operations across a multi-state footprint. This executive is responsible for shaping the operational strategy, systems, and leadership culture that drive consistent performance, compliance, and customer satisfaction across every store.
This role requires a data-driven operator and strong collaborator — someone who leads through clarity, analytics, and partnership. The VP of Retail will work cross-functionally with Finance, Real Estate, Construction, Supply Chain, Legal, Technology, and Human Resources to create a unified, best-in-class retail organization positioned for sustained growth and franchise readiness.
Key Responsibilities1. Strategic Retail Leadership
- Lead all retail operations across multiple states with full P&L ownership.
- Develop and implement a national retail operating model that drives consistency, compliance, and profitability.
- Translate strategic objectives into clear field execution plans aligned with KPIs and financial targets.
- Serve as the executive bridge between headquarters and field leadership, maintaining alignment, communication, and accountability.
2. Multi-State Operations Management
- Oversee a large field organization consisting of Regional Directors, District Managers, and General Managers.
- Establish disciplined operating rhythms including performance reviews, store audits, and financial reporting.
- Ensure regulatory compliance across all operating markets.
- Build scalable systems that support market expansion, new store launches, and sustained growth.
3. Customer Experience & Brand Execution
- Define and uphold brand standards and customer experience expectations across all locations.
- Partner with Marketing to implement in-store campaigns, merchandising, and loyalty initiatives.
- Use data and customer insights to continuously refine service models and store performance.
- Foster a customer-first culture rooted in hospitality, education, and brand trust.
4. Talent & People Operations
- Build, coach, and inspire a high-performing retail leadership team capable of managing large-scale operations.
- Partner with Human Resources to align workforce planning, hiring, training, and career development across regions.
- Develop leadership training, performance management systems, and succession planning for all retail roles.
- Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, and operational excellence across the organization.
5. Financial & Operational Performance
- Drive profitability through efficient labor management, cost control, and margin optimization.
- Partner with Finance to forecast sales, model labor and expense budgets, and analyze operational performance.
- Utilize analytics dashboards to identify trends, improve decision-making, and enhance unit economics.
6. Real Estate & Construction Partnership
- Collaborate closely with Real Estate and Construction leadership on new store development, remodels, and expansion timelines.
- Provide operational input during site selection, layout planning, and buildout design to ensure efficiency and optimal customer flow.
- Develop standardized pre-opening playbooks encompassing training, merchandising, and compliance readiness.
- Oversee grand opening execution and ensure new locations reach operational and financial targets quickly post-launch.
7. Supply Chain & Purchasing Integration
- Partner with Supply Chain and Purchasing to ensure consistent product availability, cost efficiency, and margin optimization.
- Use data-driven forecasting to align inventory levels with sales trends and promotional cycles.
- Support vendor selection and product mix decisions that enhance customer experience and profitability.
- Collaborate on scalable logistics and procurement systems that support retail growth and store-level execution.
8. Technology & Systems Collaboration
- Partner with internal software developers to enhance proprietary technology platforms for retail operations.
- Provide structured field feedback on systems supporting inventory control, customer loyalty, and POS efficiency.
- Drive technology adoption and process improvement across the retail organization.
- Ensure data integrity and real-time accessibility for decision-making, compliance tracking, and performance visibility.
9. Legal, Compliance & Franchise Readiness
- Partner with Legal and Compliance teams to maintain strict adherence to all cannabis regulations, including licensing, audits, and reporting.
- Develop and enforce policies that protect operational integrity and brand standards across states.
- Serve as a strategic partner in preparing the organization for franchising and multi-brand growth.
- Train field leadership on compliance and audit protocols to minimize risk and maintain regulatory trust.

You are an accomplished, metrics-driven retail executive with extensive experience managing multi-state, multi-unit operations. You combine operational rigor with strategic vision and thrive at the intersection of people, process, and technology.
Qualifications:
- 5-10+ years of progressive retail leadership, including executive-level P&L ownership.
- Proven ability to manage large, distributed field teams across multiple states.
- Expertise in operational analytics, workforce planning, and retail systems integration.
- Demonstrated cross-functional collaboration with Real Estate, Construction, Supply Chain, Legal, Human Resources and Technology teams.
- Strong understanding of compliance in regulated or high-growth industries.
- Tech-forward mindset with familiarity in POS, CRM, inventory, and data systems.
