Job DescriptionMental Health Worker (MHW) - Inpatient PsychiatricPay: $21.00 – $25.00 per hour (varies by experience)
Location: Concord, New Hampshire (acute psychiatric care facility) - local NH candidates only
Schedule: 8-hour shifts (5 days per week, 40 hours) - first, second, and third shift openings
Assignment Length: Contract assignments with extension opportunities

Pay Frequency: Weekly payAbout the RoleShareSTAFF is hiring Mental Health Workers (MHWs), also known as Mental Health Technicians, Behavioral Health Technicians, Psychiatric Technicians, or Patient Care Technicians, for inpatient assignments at an acute psychiatric care facility in Concord, New Hampshire. As an MHW on our team, you will support adult patients in acute inpatient psychiatric settings, working under the direction of the Charge RN to monitor patient behavior and well-being, assist with activities of daily living, support therapeutic activities, and help maintain a safe therapeutic environment for individuals living with mental illness. We have current openings on first, second, and third shift.

Note: This is a local-only opportunity. Candidates must currently reside in New Hampshire to be considered. Travel and relocation candidates are not eligible for this assignment.What We Offer

What You'll Do

  • Monitor patient behavior and communicate observations to the Charge RN and treatment team
  • Use therapeutic communication and de-escalation techniques to support patients experiencing emotional or behavioral distress
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) including hygiene, grooming, meals, and mobility
  • Support and facilitate therapeutic, recreational, and social group activities as directed by the treatment team
  • Assist with patient admissions, including contraband checks, valuables logging, and unit orientation
  • Escort and supervise patients during internal and external activities, including medical appointments and legal proceedings
  • Monitor and document patient observational levels and behavioral observations in accordance with facility policy
  • Assist with crisis intervention and behavior management interventions in accordance with facility policies and your level of training
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment in accordance with infection control and safety standards
  • Reinforce patient treatment goals and report critical changes to the RN or Nursing Coordinator
  • Respond to emergency situations as directed by nursing staff

What You Bring - Required

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current residence in New Hampshire (local candidates only)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross (in-person course required; online-only certifications are not accepted)
  • Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) certification, or willingness to complete CPI training during facility orientation
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
  • Willingness to work an 8-hour shift schedule, 5 days per week (40 hours)
  • Physical ability to assist with patient care, behavioral interventions, and activities of daily living

What You Bring - Preferred

  • Previous experience as a Mental Health Worker, Mental Health Technician, Behavioral Health Technician, Psychiatric Technician, or Patient Care Technician
  • Experience in behavioral health, psychiatric care, or mental health settings
  • Experience in state psychiatric hospital, forensic psychiatric, or geriatric psychiatric settings
  • LNA (Licensed Nursing Assistant), CNA, or DSP (Direct Support Professional) experience
  • Familiarity with patient observation protocols and electronic documentation systems
  • Coursework in mental health, psychology, social work, or a related field
