Job Description

Job DescriptionShape Quality Where Craft Meets Technology

At USA Wood Doors/Forte Opening Solutions, we transform raw materials into finished openings that enable spaces to perform. As our Quality Systems & Process Improvement Engineer, you’ll split your time between the production floor and the support office—partnering with Operations, Supply Chain, and Sales to elevate our Quality Management System (QMS), raise First Pass Yield (FPY), and reduce Cost of Quality (CoQ).

A Day in the Role

Morning on the floor: You walk the line, engage operators, and verify that control plans and work instructions are being followed. You listen for friction points and spark operator engagement with change management techniques during periods of transition.

Midday problem-solver: You lead a root cause analysis on a trend you identified—synthesizing qualitative and quantitative data, facilitating 5 Why and Fishbone sessions, and building out 8D/CAR documentation to drive sustainable corrective actions. You keep the root cause toolset organized and up to date.

Afternoon systems builder: You update FMEAs, process flows, and control plans; maintain document control for new and revised procedures; and partner with Operations to capture conformance data and track trends that inform FPY/CoQ improvements.

Every week: You act as a subject matter expert for Layered Process Audits (LPA), First Article Inspections (FAI), and other quality sustainability processes. You support training—new hires, new processes, cross-training, and refreshers—to strengthen quality understanding across teams.

What You’ll Lead

  • Cross-functional improvements to documented processes, work instructions, and verification methods with Operations, Supply Chain, and Sales.
  • Root Cause Analysis from trend identification through corrective action deployment and documentation.
  • Operator engagement in the QMS using structured change management practices.
  • Development and updates of risk-based tools: Control Plans, FMEAs, and process flows.
  • Data collection and analysis to support process/product conformance and trending.
  • Document control for all new and revised quality documents.
  • Improvement projects that measurably impact FPY and CoQ.
  • Quality sustainability practices including LPA and FAI as a recognized SME.
  • Setting and delivering measurable individual objectives aligned to Safety, Quality, and Production goals.
  • Clear, consistent communication—both written and verbal—across all levels.

What You Bring

  • 5–7 years in a manufacturing quality environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent experience (preferred).
  • Background in process and/or project management.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, or the ability to earn certification within 18 months.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Direct experience working with customers on quality issues.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while being a strong team contributor.
  • Negotiation skills with a barrier-busting mindset that champions production team needs.
  • Flexibility to support all shifts with hands-on leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of inspection and auditing processes (highly desired).
  • Fluency with QMS documentation: Work Instructions/SOPs, LPA, FAI, Process Flow, Control Plan, FMEA.
  • Proficiency in quantitative and qualitative analysis and problem-solving methods (8D, CAR, 5 Why, Fishbone) and quality assurance concepts.
  • Willingness to provide extended, flexible work hours as projects demand.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs from floor level to an inspection station.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Email, Visio and other Windows-based applications).

Your Impact

Success looks like higher FPY, lower CoQ, engaged operators, robust documentation, and a culture of disciplined problem solving—built in partnership with the teams that craft our products.
