Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education, active DHH teaching certification, and 1+ years Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

This summer, take on a rewarding contract role supporting students as an Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) in a vibrant educational setting near Wilkes Barre, PA. The Extended School Year (ESY) program seeks a dedicated professional to join the team from June 29 to August 6, providing valuable services during the crucial months when students need continuity the most.

This position operates on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings from 8:45 am to 12:15 pm, offering a total of approximately 10 hours per week. You will collaborate with a skilled interdisciplinary team, deliver instruction and support to DHH students across multiple sites, and ensure each child’s IEP goals are met during the ESY period. This opportunity is ideal for educators who are passionate about making a positive impact and who thrive in a flexible, summer-focused setting. Compensation ranges from $40 to $50 per hour, reflecting your expertise and commitment.

Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching certification for Deaf/Hard of Hearing, issued by the state of Pennsylvania
  • Experience supporting students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, preferably in a school or itinerant capacity
  • Strong skills in developing and implementing IEPs for DHH students
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
  • Adaptability to work across multiple campuses and grade levels

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialized instruction for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students as outlined in their IEPs
  • Travel to various program locations as an itinerant teacher
  • Work collaboratively with staff, families, and related service providers
  • Maintain detailed records of student progress and service delivery
