The Patient Access Clerk provides patient access and administrative support to the Patient Access Department which includes, processing of patient pre-admission, admission, transfer, and discharge activities under the guidance and supervision of the Patient Access and Health Information Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform patient pre-admission, admission, transfer, and discharge activities.
- Perform general office duties including filing, faxing, printing, and data entry. Upload documents accurately and maintain organized and up-to-date patient charts in compliance with office protocols.
- Work under the guidance of Patient Access Supervisor.
- Collect and validate patient demographic and insurance information.
- Respond to patient concerns and inquiries professionally.
- Maintain positive working relationships with patients, physicians, visitors, and hospital staffs.
- Work in compliance with policies and procedures and adheres to government regulations.
- Update various tracking systems (i.e., referral logs, admission calendar, and status logs)
- Update patient status in Electronic Medical Record System (EMR) such as admissions and transfers.
- Coordinate delivery and pick up of Durable Medical Equipment (DME) with vendors, hospital, family, staff and others as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Equivalent demonstrated experience a plus.
- Basic computer proficiency is required in MS Office Suite.
- Electronic Medical Record experience highly preferred (i.e. Netsmart or similar systems)
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus.
- Able to hear, speak, read, write, and/or type well enough to perform required job duties.
- Able to communicate well in English (spoken and written) is required.
- Able to use a computer to perform required job duties.
- Able to lift and carry up to 10 pounds.
- Able to use standard business office equipment safely.
- Ability to sit for long periods of time while conducting work assignments.
- If driving on YoloCares business, must have a valid California driver’s license and state-required automobile insurance.
