Summary:
Under the guidance of a school administrator, this role involves working closely with students to reinforce skills through small group or one-on-one instruction. Responsibilities include ensuring the safety and well-being of students, maintaining and updating student records, as well as monitoring and documenting academic and behavioral progress.
Key duties include delivering lessons, preparing instructional materials, supervising students in various settings (classroom and non-classroom environments), and assisting with test administration. This position may involve assignments in one or more classrooms, including the in-house suspension classroom.
When serving as a substitute teacher, you will implement the classroom teacher's lesson plans to facilitate a productive day of learning. Responsibilities include taking attendance, maintaining an organized and functional classroom, employing effective classroom management strategies, leaving the space in good condition, and delivering the assigned curriculum.
Essential Duties and Professional Responsibilities:
- Facilitate and monitor small group or one-on-one instruction for students.
- Maintain and update student records, including progress, attendance, test scores, and personal information; input data into the school's computer system.
- Plan and deliver lessons to reinforce and enhance skills, concepts, and strategies introduced in the classroom, as needed.
- Supervise students in classroom and non-classroom settings.
- Prepare instructional materials for use in class or pull-out sessions.
- Secure and organize supplies, materials, and equipment, ensuring a well-ordered environment.
- Attend job-related training sessions and in-service programs.
- Assist with administering scheduled tests.
- Maintain classroom routines and ensure consistency in daily operations.
- Assume the responsibilities of the classroom teacher, including delivering lessons and implementing school curriculum, when serving as a substitute teacher.
- Oversee and manage student behavior during instructional time and other activities.
- Adhere to and enforce school policies and procedures applicable to regular teachers.
- Communicate effectively with school administration and classroom teachers.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Technical Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with expertise in public relations, instruction, curriculum development, conflict resolution, and facilitation.
- Proficiency in multitasking, problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational management.
- Ability to work effectively with students of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs.
- Advanced interpersonal skills for engaging with students and staff at varying levels of development and understanding.
- Demonstrates flexibility, patience, and adaptability in response to changing needs and circumstances.
- In-depth knowledge of instructional strategies and curriculum development.
- Proficient in using personal computers, word processing software, and basic office equipment.
- English language proficiency is required; fluency in a second language is beneficial and required based on the assignment.
Education and Work Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) from an accredited college or university (preferred).
- Valid Colorado Teacher or Substitute License (preferred).
- Proven experience working with students in an educational setting.
- At least one year of experience providing general supervision to students or working within a classroom environment.
- Experience working with school-aged children.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check (required for hire).
