Aculabs is seeking an entry-level Microbiology Assistant to support our microbiology department. This is a great opportunity for someone currently in school, a recent graduate, or anyone looking to gain hands-on laboratory experience and build their resume in the microbiology field.

This role provides exposure to laboratory operations, specimen handling, quality control support, inventory, documentation, and daily department workflow under the direction of trained laboratory staff.

Responsibilities

  • The Microbiology Assistant will support the Microbiology Department by assisting with routine prep and organization tasks under supervision, including:

    • Preparing and organizing supplies needed for daily microbiology workflow
    • Setting up plates, media, reagents, and other materials for testing preparation
    • Stocking and replenishing reagents, disposable supplies, and department materials
    • Checking inventory levels and notifying the supervisor when supplies are low
    • Labeling, organizing, and staging specimens or materials as directed
    • Disposing of outdated specimens and materials according to laboratory procedures
    • Cleaning and maintaining assigned work areas
    • Assisting with daily department maintenance tasks that do not require technical interpretation
    • Maintaining basic documentation and logs as assigned
    • Following laboratory safety procedures, HIPAA requirements, and infection control guidelines
    • Communicating with laboratory staff regarding supply needs, workflow support, or specimen handling questions

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good communication skills
  • Basic computer skills, including G-Suites
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Willingness to learn and follow detailed laboratory procedures
