Location - Milton, ON is the preferred location. The backup location is Rosemont IL (near O'Hare).
Hybrid - 3x a week onsite + travel to other sites in the USA and Canada - 40-50% travel!
Position Overview
The Director of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) for Chemical Products will lead the development and implementation of EHS strategies to ensure the safety and well-being of employees and compliance with environmental regulations. This role involves overseeing all EHS initiatives related to chemical products manufacturing.
The Director will play a key part in the organization's Environmental, Social and Governance framework and will help drive sustainability programs to work on the energy and waste reduction initiatives to drive down costs and be the key interface outside the organization (ISN, Manufacturing 2030, Ecovadis, ISO 50001).
As the incoming Director, you are responsible for driving our EHS and ESG programs across the network of 20+ manufacturing, distribution and fleet departments located across 4 continents with 8 direct reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement EHS policies and programs specific to chemical products manufacturing.
- Conduct risk assessments and ensure the effective management of hazardous materials.
- Lead incident investigations and ensure compliance with safety management systems.
- Monitor compliance with environmental regulations and identify areas for improvement.
- Provide leadership and training to employees on EHS practices and sustainability initiatives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.
- Utilize benchmarking tools such as Gensuite to track EHS performance metrics and drive continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in EHS roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership position in chemical manufacturing.
- Training and Certification in various governmental legislation.
- CCCR, Pesticide Act, WHMIS, 29 CFR, 16 CFR, TDG, DOT, IMDG, IATA, OHSA) and industry standards.
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and safety management systems.
- Proven experience in risk assessment and hazardous materials management.
- Demonstrated ability in incident investigation and process safety management.
- Strong leadership skills with a focus on sustainability practices and environmental health and safety culture.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Safety Management, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
