Job DescriptionPayroll Supervisor (Contract)
$40.00 - $50.00 per Hour
Payroll Supervisor for a contract assignment covering a leave of absence. I am partnering confidentially with my client to identify a payroll leader who can step in quickly and manage complex, high-volume payroll operations with confidence.
This role is ideal for a hands-on payroll professional with strong supervisory experience and deep knowledge of multi-state payroll, compliance, and union environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise weekly, high-volume payroll processing across multiple U.S. states and Canadian provinces
- Lead and support a team of 6 payroll professionals in a shared services environment
- Ensure payroll accuracy, timeliness, and full regulatory compliance
- Review staffing and workflows to ensure proper payroll coverage
- Support hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management of payroll staff
- Conduct payroll audits, reconciliations, and quality control reviews
- Process bonuses, special payments, and taxable fringe benefits
- Serve as an escalation point for payroll issues and employee inquiries
- Partner closely with HR, Accounting, and internal stakeholders
- Act as a liaison for union payroll matters
- Maintain confidentiality and security of payroll data
- Assist with special projects and operational improvements as needed
Required Qualifications
- CPP certification (preferred)
- 7+ years of payroll experience, including multi-state payroll
- 2+ years of payroll supervisory or leadership experience
- Experience supporting organizations with 5,000+ employees
- Strong knowledge of wage & hour laws, payroll taxes, garnishments, and compliance
- Advanced Excel skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail and ability to work independently
Preferred Experience
- Union payroll experience
- Shared services or large enterprise payroll environments
Payroll System
- ADP Vantage experience required
