Job Summary:
The Operations Manager shall oversee daily operations. The Operations Manager shall assist in promoting and maintaining the terminal structure and standards of operations as prescribed by leadership.
Schedule:
- Monday-Friday 7AM to 5PM
Job Duties:
- Proactively address safety concerns by:
- Communicating safety goals and standards to Fleet Management
- Provide resources for safety concern resolution
- Regular reviews of terminal “safety health"
- Ensure Fleet and Fleet Management are in compliance in the following areas:
- Driver fitness (DOT physical)
- Driver documents (license, annual review, etc.)
- Hours of Service
- Assist in facilitating random driver testing as needed
- Personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Partner with Fleet Management to offer the highest level of driver satisfaction in the industry. Retention goals to be set and measured by Senior Cowan Management
- Partner with leadership and customer to provide high level customer satisfaction.
- The Operations Manager is responsible for all terminal expirations, and coordination between various departments and Fleet Management
- Maintain proper level of terminal operations staffing (schedules/coverage of work load)
- Driver master schedule development and maintenance
- Oversight of the Fleet planning and plan execution
- Provide Fleet Management with updated special load requirements as dictated by the customer
- Monitor and measure assessorial charges collected/missed. Address with Fleet Management as needed.
- Daily review of Cowan Connect standards by Fleet. Areas of focus:
- 30-minute compliance
- Late reason coding
- Detention notes/collection
- Coach and counsel your Fleet Management team in the following areas (subject to Terminal Manager approval)
- Attendance
- Cowan Connect performance of Fleet Management
- Customer care and service
- Develop Fleet Management performance improvement plans as needed, in partnership with leadership
- Participate in driver mentoring and driver appreciation activities
- Asset management, relating to:
- Tractor/trailer PM scheduling
- Equipment moves/positioning
- Rental equipment tracking and management
- Regular equipment condition inspections
- Quarterly review of Terminal performance with leadership.
- Review revenue per truck per day with leadership. Identify areas of opportunity (BH lanes, empty miles, etc). Develop improvement plan as needed with leadership. Execute plans with Fleet Management.
- Review OTR miles and local pay, ensuring efficiency, utilization and driver compensation goals
- Other duties as assigned at Senior Management discretion
Job Requirements:
- 3-5 years’ industry experience
- 1-3 years’ direct report management experience
- TMS experience required. TMW preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Extensive knowledge of DOT regulations
- Ability to plan, manage and complete projects
- Ability to work off hours as dictated by the business
- Monthly travel may be required as dictated by the customer/business

- Ability to prioritize tasks in order of importance and urgency
- Ability to set clear expectations to reports
- Effective and professional verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
