Job Description

The Process Technician works closely with Process and Project Engineering, Tool Engineering, and Production to launch new products on the production floor and to improve existing manufacturing processes. This role focuses heavily on hands-on technical support, troubleshooting, and process optimization, spending at least 80% of the time on the production floor. The Process Technician conducts tests, analyzes data, adjusts equipment, and develops practical solutions to improve quality, efficiency, and reliability of production operations.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with engineering and production teams to implement new product launches on the production floor.
  • Engage in hands-on process technical support on the production floor at least 80% of the time.
  • Perform new tool tryouts and analyze tool design and specifications to understand intended tool functionality.
  • Assist operators with technical problem solving and recommend creative, practical technical solutions.
  • Conduct tests, collect and report data, adjust equipment settings, and troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Diagnose process and equipment problems and recommend corrective actions based on findings.
  • Provide process operations support with hands-on troubleshooting and process development.
  • Assist in process optimization to improve quality, throughput, and consistency.
  • Analyze process and tool data to improve process quality and tool performance.
  • Verify manufacturing standards by comparing actual performance versus estimates.
  • Perform process capability and uptime studies to meet predetermined goals before formally handing off projects to manufacturing.
  • Assist the Maintenance team in addressing repeat machine problems and recurring issues.
  • Implement continuous improvement, cost reduction, and safety projects within the production area.
  • Research and perform trials on supplies and consumables that can improve cost and/or quality.
  • Investigate and coordinate tooling improvements, repairs, and replacements.
  • Monitor standard tooling inventories to ensure appropriate quantities are maintained.
  • Facilitate initial manufacturing review of setup books and coordinate ongoing updates.
  • Program BLM tube lasers and 5-axis lasers and support manufacturing with laser-related issues.
  • Program material handling and welding robots to support automated production processes.
  • Provide technical problem-solving support and expertise to manufacturing as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support production and process improvement goals.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience working as a Process Technician or in a closely related process engineering technician role.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting skills in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Experience with process engineering and process improvement activities.
  • Understanding of metal forming or metal fabrication processes.
  • Knowledge of welding processes and related equipment.
  • Ability to support process optimization and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience in programming CNC equipment.
  • Ability to program material handling and welding robots.
  • Ability to program and support BLM tube lasers and 5-axis lasers.
  • Strong analytical skills to conduct tests, analyze data, and interpret process capability and uptime studies.
  • Ability to read and understand tool designs and specifications and determine how tools are intended to function.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in metal forming or metal processing environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist with continuous improvement, cost reduction, and safety projects.
  • Experience supporting maintenance teams with repeat machine issues.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with operators, engineering, maintenance, and production teams.
  • Ability to work with setup documentation and contribute to setup book reviews and updates.
  • Interest in professional growth and willingness to move into leadership opportunities as the department grows.

Work Environment

This role operates in a modern, air-conditioned manufacturing facility with an 80/20 split between time on the production floor and time at a desk. The department is growing, offering opportunities to develop into leadership roles quickly for those who perform well. The typical schedule for this position is weekend days, Friday through Sunday, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The workplace culture emphasizes team engagement and recognition, with regular monthly cookouts and events that foster a collaborative and supportive environment. The facility uses advanced technologies such as BLM tube lasers, 5-axis lasers, CNC equipment, and robotic material handling and welding systems, providing exposure to modern automated manufacturing processes.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Shelbyville, KY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $34.00/hr.
