JOB TITLE: RESEARCH COORDINATOR

Location: Lowcountry Lung and Critical Care, P.A.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Employee must perform clinical and administrative duties under the direction of a Physician/Principal Investigator. These duties would include scheduling protocol specific study appointments, maintaining/editing medical records, pulling charts, etc. Clinical duties will include taking and recording vital signs, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood and processing sample, Pulmonary Function Testing, EKG’s, ordering medications, administering medications, and all other job duties deemed appropriate by the Protocol(SOP).

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Research Director; Practice Administrator

SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIP: NONE

Typical Physical Demands: Position requires full range of body motion, as well as manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Job duties require the ability to sit/stand for long periods of time. Employee will work under stressful conditions and work irregular hours from time to time. Position requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, operate a computer, telephone, calculator, copier, and such other office equipment as necessary. Vision must be correctable to 20/20 and hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contact. Position also requires viewing computer screens and typing for long periods of time.

Typical Working Conditions: From time to time the employee may have exposure to communicable diseases, toxic waste, toxic substances, radiation, injectable solutions, human waste and other conditions common in a clinical environment. Each employee should perform their job functions with safety of the patient and self as the number one priority.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  1. Assesses, monitors, records and responds to patient notes in software EMR.
  2. Ensures the patient records/chart have uploaded appropriate labs & procedure results.
  3. Telephones, E-prescribes or hand writes prescription requests for physicians to desired pharmacy; documents this action in patient chart & obtains appropriate approval for such actions.
  4. Disposes of contaminated items according to OSHA guidelines and office policies.
  5. Returns patients phone calls/voice mails at designated times throughout the day; documents actions taken in the study source document and electronic case report form with appropriate date/time.
  6. Prepares patient for exam by taking history, height/weight, blood pressure per protocol, recording the information in the study source and electronic case report form.
  7. Maintains patient confidentiality in conjunction with HIPAA compliance guidelines established by the practice.
  8. Maintains knowledge of EMR and other computer software as it relates to specific job functions.
  9. Maintains current “good clinical practice” certifications.
  10. Documentation of “informed consent” prior to participation in the specific clinical trial.
  11. All other job duties deemed appropriate by the Protocol(SOP).

OTHER JOB DUTIES:

  1. Cleans, sterilizes and processes equipment and instruments per guidelines.
  2. Attends C.E. courses as requested by Physician or Practice Administrator.
  3. Attends all staff meetings.
  4. Completes all other duties assigned by the Physician or Practice Administrator.
  5. Maintain shipping of infectious substances (IATA & DOT) certifications.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  1. Must possess skills to include obtaining height/weight, blood pressure, handling instruments and all other knowledge based skills required of a typical
  2. Must possess a detailed knowledge of medical terminology.
  3. Must possess adequate computer skills and ability to navigate EMR system.
  4. Must feel comfortable using email and interacting via internet.
  5. Must be able to multitask while maintaining accuracy.
  6. Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  7. Must always display a collegial, courteous, positive, and helpful attitude towards other offices, patients, patient family, LLCC staff and physicians while maintaining a pleasant speaking voice and attitude.
  8. Must display a great approach towards a team-based environment.
  9. Must be reliable and highly motivated to excel.
  10. Must be able to follow directions and office procedures.
  11. Must maintain a professional and neat appearance.

EDUCATION: High School Diploma required; associate degree in applied science preferred

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of two years experience or equivalent job experience in research. Pulmonary care experience is highly recommended.
