Position Overview
Bethany School seeks a K-8 Physical Education Teacher beginning in August 2026. Successful candidates are culturally competent, responsible, caring, and enthusiastic educators who are passionate about student wellness and physical development. The PE Teacher designs and delivers engaging, developmentally appropriate physical education instruction that supports students' physical, social, and emotional growth while fostering a lifelong appreciation for movement, teamwork, and healthy living.
This position is a member of the Special Area Team (SAT) Division and collaborates closely with faculty across grade levels to support Bethany School's mission of educating the mind, body, and spirit in an inclusive environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
● Teach physical education classes for students in grades K–8.
● Design and implement fun, engaging, and developmentally appropriate PE lessons aligned to the Ohio Learning Standards for Physical Education.
● Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment that promotes teamwork, sportsmanship, and respect.
● Support students' physical fitness, motor skill development, cooperation, and self-confidence.
● Incorporate age-appropriate instruction that meets the diverse needs and abilities of students.
● Emphasize student safety, proper use of equipment, and safe movement practices.
● Collaborate with SAT colleagues and homeroom teachers to support whole-child development.
● Participate in school events, assemblies, and community activities as appropriate.
● Communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, and colleagues.
● Engage in ongoing professional development and reflective practice.
● Uphold and model Bethany School's mission, values, and Episcopal identity.
Qualifications:
● Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education, Education, Health or related field required; Master's Degree preferred.
● Experience teaching physical education in a K–8 or elementary/middle school setting preferred.
● A commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
● Strong classroom and behavior management skills in active learning environments.
● Ability to design lessons that are engaging, structured, and developmentally appropriate.
● Initiative regarding job-related tasks, responsibilities, and projects.
● Collaborative skills and the ability to work effectively in team settings.
● Prioritization of student safety and well-being.
● Dependability, professionalism, punctuality, and sound judgment.
● Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and professionally in writing and verbally.
● Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development.
