An opportunity is available for a registered nurse skilled in progressive care to provide specialized support within a stepdown unit focusing on cardiac and pulmonary patients. This contract role is based in Lenexa, KS, at a medical center recognized for delivering high-quality care with advanced monitoring and treatment technologies.
Responsibilities:
- Care for patients with moderate physiologic instability including COPD exacerbations, pneumonia, CHF, and tracheostomy care.
- Perform regular patient assessments including vital signs every 4 hours, continuous cardiac monitoring, blood glucose checks, and neurological evaluations as needed.
- Administer oxygen therapy including nasal cannula, BIPAP/CPAP (up to 80%), and AirVo low flow devices.
- Collaborate with team members including unit secretaries and patient care techs to maintain a 1:4-5 nurse-to-patient ratio.
- Document patient care using Meditech electronic systems.
- Adhere to unit dress code, wearing the designated royal blue uniform.
- Engage in self-scheduling to include three weekends per four-week cycle.
Qualifications:
- Active RN licensure.
- Current ACLS and BLS certification.
- NIH Stroke Scale certification required.
- Experience with telemetry and pulmonary step down care preferred.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team committed to patient respect, courtesy, and collaborative care.
