Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week night shift contract on an Ortho-Neuro Med/Surg unit, with required Epic proficiency and orthopedic patient care experience.
Details
- Acute care setting on a 33-bed Ortho-Neuro Med/Surg unit, all private rooms
- Patient population includes elective orthopedic surgeries (hips, knees, shoulders), fractures, neuro-surgical (back and neck) cases, and general Med/Surg patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6
- Patient Care Techs (PCTs) available on the unit to assist with vitals, blood glucose monitoring, ADLs, and Foley discontinuation
- Charge Nurse available 24/7; night charge nurse carries a full patient assignment
- Remote telemetry available if needed, monitored by another floor — RNs are not required to read strips
- RT-managed respiratory equipment including CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen available on the unit
- IV fluids and PCA pumps used; no heparin or titratable drips
- Epic EMR — experience required
- 12-hour night shifts: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM with a 30-minute lunch break
- Every-other-weekend requirement; weekend nights include Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
- Travelers are first to float and may be floated to any Med/Surg unit; if floated to a Tele unit, assignments will be within the traveler's skillset
Requirements
- Active WV RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS certification (AHA)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Orthopedic patient care experience required
- PCA pump experience required
- Epic EMR proficiency required
- Valid driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Orientation consists of 1 day of Epic training followed by 1 day on the floor with a preceptor; independent assignment begins on day 3
- Travelers are scheduled based on unit needs; block scheduling may be accommodated when unit needs allow
- Holiday coverage may be required depending on permanent staff availability
- Royal blue scrubs required; scrub jackets must be royal blue if worn — no hoodies or non-scrub jackets permitted
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from this WVU facility to be eligible for the travel assignment
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before re-applying
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
- Time-off requests should be disclosed upfront during the consideration process
