Our network serves over 1,400 students annually at our six campuses across the District, with a staff of over 250 dedicated individuals.
Special Education teachers work under the direct supervision of the campus principal, with additional oversight from the Student Support Services Department at the Central Office. Special Education teachers are expected to help create an inclusive environment for students with disabilities, set high expectations, and deliver targeted instruction. The ideal candidate is highly knowledgeable on the Common Core State Standards and in research-based instructional strategies for diverse learners.
Responsibilities:
Instructional Leadership:

Acting as lead teacher in a small self-contained classroom or as a co-teacher in an inclusion classroom of students with IEPs, creating a positive learning environment with appropriate and effective structures and routines

Planned and implemented instruction in all content areas that provided access to grade-level curriculum through scaffolds and appropriate accommodations; used alternative curriculum as appropriate to address students' developmental needs.

Deliver personalized instruction to individual students or small groups based on data-driven insights.

Deliver targeted instruction to students individually or in small groups; use data to track and communicate student progress and propose adaptations to IEP programming.

Utilize alternative curricula when necessary to meet students’ developmental needs.
Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Development and Implementation:
-
Writing and implementing IEPs designed with student, parent, and general education teacher input, various data sources, target priority skills, and meaningful accommodations and classroom supports.

Regularly monitor students on IEP goals and grade-level standards; write IEP progress reports using student data describing progress toward goals.

Propose adaptations to IEP programming based on data and student needs.
Collobration and Complaince:
-
Collaborating with related service providers to plan instruction and implement accommodations.

Meet all compliance deadlines.

Engage families meaningfully to discuss their child’s progress and include input on IEPs, evaluation decisions, and Secondary Transition Plans as needed.
Student Development:

Support the development of behavior intervention plans (BIPs) or informal behavior systems; hold students accountable to high behavioral expectations while supporting their social-emotional development.

Maintain high behavioral expectations while fostering social-emotional development
Professional Growth:

Participate in the Center City PCS learning community via PLCs, campus/district professional development, and weekly campus-based grade-level planning sessions.

Reflect on teaching by accepting ongoing informal feedback and implementing changes based on that feedback.
Compliance and Professional Expectations:

Follow school procedures regarding attire, behavior, and punctuality.

Attend and participate in occasional events outside of regular school hours.
Qualifications
-
Master’s Degree in Special Education (preferred) or a related field
-
Licensure in Special Education or plans to obtain licensure in Special Education

Strong familiarity with the Common Core Coherence Map for Math, with experience teaching the Eureka Math curriculum, preferred
-
Prior teaching experience, preferably in a self-contained classroom
-
Extensive knowledge of best practices in classroom management, instructional strategies to support diverse learning needs, and use of data to support instruction, with evidence of growth

Must be highly organized

Must have working knowledge of federal and local special education laws

References that reflect high standing with a past employer

Able to lift up to 10 pounds and able to stand for long hours
