Position Overview
The Fraud Associate Level I supports the Government Fraud Program Manager (FPM) by performing administrative tasks, data analysis, and quality control functions related to passport fraud prevention and detection. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate data, coordinating with other U.S. Government agencies, and assisting in training and process improvement efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform administrative duties and data entry in support of the Fraud Program Office.
- Process initial and ongoing fraud case paperwork, including scanning, entering/updating applicant information into National Fraud Database (ECAS), PLOTS, TDIS, and other relevant databases.
- Determine appropriate fraud case classifications and perform quality control reviews of data entered.
- Maintain both paper and electronic file libraries, including SharePoint systems.
- Draft and proofread pre-formatted correspondence to applicants regarding deficiencies in their passport applications.
- Verify vital records and other public records as needed.
- Liaise with other DOS and USG agencies as part of daily operations.
- Respond to telephone and written inquiries regarding pending applications.
- Assist in preparing passport fraud detection training materials.
- Train other Fraud Associate Level I personnel and maintain associated training documentation.
- Support process improvement initiatives within the Fraud Program Office.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years general office experience.
- Minimum of 3 years experience with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
- One year of experience as a Support Associate Level II (preferred).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
- Excellent written communication and proofreading skills.
- Ability to follow procedures accurately in a fast-paced environment.
- Capable of performing repetitive tasks while maintaining high accuracy (e.g., lifting, standing, reaching, sorting, filing).
- Basic customer service skills and ability to interface effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to operate desktop and industrial-sized scanners.

About the Role
This role is critical to maintaining the integrity of passport issuance processes and supporting the Department of State’s fraud prevention and detection efforts. The Fraud Associate Level I ensures that cases are accurately processed, analyzed, and escalated appropriately, contributing to overall operational efficiency and compliance.
