Summary

Performs a variety of engineering work in the initial planning and design phases of projects. Uses creativity and objectivity to perform studies and technical activities to arrive at optimal, cost effective, and reliable technical solutions. Supports Purchasing, Quality, and Manufacturing with engineering knowledge and experience. Performs other duties as required. Much of the work will involve electrical components and system design. Frequent tasks include but are not limited to one and three-line documentation creation, load lists, creating engineering BOM, engineering project hours estimates, and executing projects.

Primary Functions and Responsibilities

  • Developing, reviewing, updating, modifying, and approving electrical designs, drawings and BOM to meet regulatory and safety guidelines.
  • Liaising with clients and other engineers to ensure projects are completed to specifications and on time.
  • Establishing relationships with clients, vendors, suppliers, and other professionals.
  • Maintaining and improving existing engineering processes and workflows.
  • Participating in conferences, events, networking, and learning opportunities.
  • Creating cost estimates, schedules, and various other documents.
  • Analyzing existing processes and scheduling meetings to discuss improvement initiatives.
  • Conducting research, performing diagnostics, and troubleshooting equipment and systems.
  • Designing and building prototypes as part of the development process as required.
  • Work in a cross-functional team environment as well as individually on assignments.
  • Provide engineering support for manufacturing and service teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field with a strong foundation in electrical theory and applications and a focus on power generation.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical systems design, power distribution methodologies, and control systems is essential. Familiarity with power generation technologies.
  • 5+ years of Power Generation and Distribution equipment, electrical component and controls design, and troubleshooting experience. Medium and low voltage applications.
  • Proficiency in advanced electrical design and CAD software with experience using simulation tools for system analysis and performance assessment.
  • Experience in mobile power generation and distribution design solutions and testing is highly desirable.

Requirements

  • One line and three-line schematic design documentation experience.
  • PLC based controls design and SCADA programming experience.
  • DC Power system design (PV and/or battery storage), troubleshooting, and testing.
  • 4-20ma current loop component and control system design and troubleshooting experience.
  • Modbus TCP/IP, Modbus RTU, CAN bus, RS485 communications protocol design and troubleshooting.
  • Panel load calculations and schedule development. Arc flash assessment and risk calculation experience.
  • Experience defining electrical/controls requirements as part of system specifications.
  • Experience supporting field and customers to troubleshoot technical issues using a sound root cause analysis and problem-solving approach.
  • Experience supporting Manufacturing to resolve issues and work with Electrical Associates to develop standard assembly methods and evolve troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience designing electrical systems with UL (or CSA) approved components and overseeing UL (or CSA) system approval.
  • Experience in Hazardous Location Electrical System and Component design (Class/Div./Zone)
  • Experience in control enclosure selection, design/layout per applicable standard(s), and/or customer requirements.
  • Experience in cable design for applications, including conductor sizing and type, connector selection, and equipment routing.
  • Experience as design checker/approver for electrical engineering designs and documentation.
  • Extensive working knowledge of codes: including, but not limited to NEC, NFPA, IEEE and other industry standard electrical codes.
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Experience with IOT, Networking, and Cloud Based solutions.
