Job Description

Wood Finisher

Job Description

This role focuses on finishing custom wood cabinets for both residential and commercial projects within a high-quality, custom manufacturing environment. You will work hands-on at a dedicated workstation, apply stains and finishes to wood products, and oversee the finishing department to ensure every piece meets strict quality standards before shipping.

Responsibilities

  • Work at a dedicated workstation to build and finish custom wood cabinets.
  • Use power tools and hand tools safely and effectively to complete cabinet construction and finishing tasks.
  • Apply wood stains using a rag, ensuring consistent color, coverage, and finish quality on all wood products.
  • Perform detailed paint preparation, including sanding, cleaning, and surface inspection, to ensure optimal adhesion and finish.
  • Assist with staining and painting cabinet components as needed to meet production schedules.
  • Conduct thorough quality control checks on finished cabinets before they are sent to shipping, identifying and correcting any defects.
  • Oversee the finishing department, providing guidance and direction to an entry-level finisher who is still learning the trade.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including proper handling and storage of finishing materials and tools.
  • Collaborate with team members in production and shipping to ensure orders are completed accurately and on time.
  • Follow all company procedures and standards for finishing, quality, and safety.

Essential Skills

  • 1 to 2 years of finishing experience specifically on wood products.
  • Hands-on experience applying wood stains using a rag rather than a spray gun.
  • Proficiency with paint preparation, including sanding and surface preparation for finishing.
  • Strong quality control skills with the ability to inspect and evaluate finished wood products.
  • Experience working with cabinetry and custom wood components.
  • Competence using hand tools and power tools in a woodworking or cabinetmaking environment.
  • Ability to oversee and support an entry-level finisher, including providing guidance and feedback.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-end finished products.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in a custom cabinet shop or similar woodworking environment.
  • Experience in residential or commercial cabinet projects.
  • Comfort working in a smaller, close-knit team where collaboration and communication are important.
  • Ability to manage time effectively to meet production and shipping deadlines.
