Job Description

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Van Build Technician to join our growing team. This role involves the installation, integration, troubleshooting, and commissioning of the many systems that make up our custom adventure vans, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, interior components, accessories, and off-grid power systems.

The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, enjoys hands-on work, and takes pride in craftsmanship. Experience in the automotive, marine, RV, fabrication, construction, or trades industries is highly valued. While experience with 12V and 120V electrical systems is a major advantage, we are also interested in candidates with strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience as an RV technician, marine technician, automotive technician, fabricator, carpenter, mechanic, or skilled tradesperson who enjoys working on unique, high-quality projects in a collaborative shop environment.

Responsibilities

  • Install interior and exterior lighting, outlets, appliances, roof fans, heaters, air conditioners, water pumps, refrigerators, and other vehicle systems.
  • Install and integrate complete 12V and 120V electrical systems in custom adventure vans.
  • Install and configure lithium battery systems, inverters, chargers, solar systems, DC-DC chargers, secondary alternators, fuse panels, circuit protection devices, and electrical accessories.
  • Build and terminate custom wiring harnesses using professional-grade crimping, routing, labeling, and wire management practices.
  • Install and configure advanced vehicle monitoring and control systems including touchscreens, battery monitoring, switching systems, and remote connectivity solutions.
  • Install and troubleshoot premium stereo systems including amplifiers, speakers, subwoofers, DSPs, head units, and vehicle integration modules.
  • Install and integrate aftermarket vehicle accessories such as winches, air compressors, power steps, rooftop accessories, Starlink systems, security systems, GPS tracking, camera systems, and accessory control modules.
  • Troubleshoot vehicle systems and verify proper operation through testing and commissioning.
  • Read and interpret build plans, wiring diagrams, technical drawings, and installation instructions.
  • Collaborate with other builders to ensure projects are completed efficiently and to Live a Little Vans quality standards.
  • Assist with plumbing system installations including fresh water, gray water, filtration systems, water heaters, pumps, valves, and related components.
  • Perform cabinetry installation, interior finish work, insulation, and light carpentry tasks as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace.
  • Assist with inventory management and organization of tools, materials, and supplies.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of shop processes and build standards.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in automotive, marine, RV, fabrication, construction, or related trades preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience working with tools and technical systems required.
  • Experience with 12V DC electrical systems is highly desirable but not required.
  • Experience in marine, RV, automotive, solar, low-voltage, fabrication, or residential/commercial construction is highly desirable.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, wiring diagrams, or installation instructions.
  • Familiarity with Victron, Xantrex, EcoFlow, Epoch, Battle Born, or similar power systems is a plus.
  • Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a team.
  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Plumbing, carpentry, fabrication, or finish carpentry experience is a plus.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a hands-on shop environment.
  • Valid driver's license required.

What We're Looking For

  • Someone who takes pride in their work and values craftsmanship.
  • A self-starter who can work through challenges and find solutions.
  • A team player with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Someone excited about adventure vehicles, off-grid systems, and building unique projects that help customers explore the world.
  • Someone who enjoys variety—every van we build is different.

Benefits

  • Four-day work week (Monday–Thursday)
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Opportunities for skill development and advancement
  • Work on unique, high-end custom projects
  • Collaborative and supportive team environment
  • Retirement plan matching
