ESS Clinical is hiring and seeking a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher (DHH) to join our team for Placer County School District for the 2026-2027 School Year! \nPAY starting at $65/hr - w2 and $75/hr - 1099
\nThe Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) provides specialized instruction and support services to students who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind, or have hearing impairments. This position works collaboratively with general education teachers, special education staff, speech-language pathologists, families, and administrators to ensure students have access to the academic curriculum, communication support, and appropriate educational services.
\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities\n

    \n\t
  • Provide specialized instruction and communication support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing in individual, small group, and classroom settings \n\t
  • Develop and manage IEPs, accommodations, transition plans, assessments, progress monitoring, and required documentation \n\t
  • Collaborate with teachers, families, interpreters, audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and other staff to support student success \n\t
  • Support the use of spoken language, sign language, assistive technology, hearing aids, cochlear implants, FM systems, and classroom amplification devices \n\t
  • Provide staff training on hearing loss, classroom accommodations, and student needs while traveling between school sites as assigned\n

\nRequired Qualifications\n\n

    \n\t
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field preferred \n\t
  • Valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential with Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) authorization required \n\t
  • Current California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) authorization required to serve students who are deaf or hard of hearing \n\t
  • Knowledge of special education laws, IEP development, assessments, instructional strategies, and hearing-related student supports \n\t
  • Strong communication, collaboration, organization, and documentation skills with the ability to work effectively with staff, families, and multidisciplinary teams \n\t
  • Experience working with students who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind, or have multiple disabilities preferred \n\t
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL), Deaf culture, and assistive listening technology such as FM systems, hearing aids, and cochlear implants preferred \n\t
  • Valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance may be required for travel between sites \n

  • Additional requirements may include English Learner Authorization or CLAD certification, fingerprint clearance, TB clearance, background check, and CPR/First Aid certification\n\t
  • California DHH teachers must hold a valid Education Specialist Instruction Credential with a Deaf and Hard of Hearing authorization issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. This credential authorizes service to students ages birth through 22 with deafness, hearing impairment, deaf-blindness, and related needs.\n\t
  • Many California programs also require candidates to demonstrate expressive and receptive American Sign Language proficiency and complete coursework specific to deaf education, communication methods, and hearing-related supports.\n\t
  • Public school DHH teachers are often responsible for IEP participation, educational assessments, consultation with staff, instructional support, and use of hearing-related technology such as FM systems, hearing aids, and cochlear implant equipment.\n\t
  • Most districts also require fingerprint clearance, TB testing, and a valid California teaching credential with DHH authorization before employment.\n
