MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

SUMMARIZED DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision and/or direction of the Registered Nurse or Surgicenter Administrator/Director performs various duties in the processing, treatment and care of surgical patients in accordance with the established methods and procedures of the facility.

  • Direct Patient Care Activities per CES policy
  • Transports patients to and from various areas in the operating suite as is necessary.
  • Assists physician with surgical procedures including, but not limited to the passing of instruments.
  • Handles and cares for patients' personal property (including prosthetic devices, hearing aids, dentures, glasses, contact lenses, etc.) from admission to O.R. through discharge of the patient from O.R.
  • Collects tissue and other surgical specimens as requested.
  • Indirect Patient Care Activities per CES policy
  • Greets patients, employees, physicians or other inquiring parties in a cheerful and helpful manner.
  • Receives, cleans, decontaminates, sterilizes and stores various supplies and equipment used during surgical procedures.
  • Operates and maintains auto-clave and log books as required.
  • Keeps records of patient charges incurred during surgical procedure.
  • Responsible for stock and non-stock ordering of lens and all supplies.
  • Receives deliveries and stores appropriately incoming inventory, as well as excess supplies left at end of surgical day.
  • Cleans and maintains surgical instruments and special equipment.
  • Notifies Nurse Manager for repair of surgical instruments and special equipment as needed.
  • Sets up, positions and operates specialized operating room equipment including but not

limited to Phaco machine, Posterior Vitrectomy/Vitreo-retinal machine, Cryosurgical machine, Argon Endolaser, and Electrocautery machine.

Assists in preparing physicians preference list and procedure lists.

Helps maintain cleanliness of the operating room.

Answers telephone courteously, communicating all messages promptly.

Assists in Lasik suite when necessary.

Performs other duties as assigned and pertinent to the department.

EXPECTATIONS

  • Adhere to time clocking policy.
  • Wear identification badge.
  • Adhere to attendance policy.
  • Understand that management may change work schedules and assignments without notice and must authorize overtime.
  • Adhere to dress code assigned scrubs.
  • No artificial nails allowed in all areas of the ASC. Natural nail length per AORN Standards.
  • Understand and demonstrate acceptable grooming.
  • No strong perfume (as defined by patients, peers and/or management)
  • Demonstrate professional behavior, including confidentiality.
  • No non-work related internet use, including all personal emails and websites.
  • No cell phone use in all perioperative areas. Cell phones may be utilized in the kitchen or outside the ASC during breaks or lunch.
  • Understand and abide by safety regulations.
  • Read and complete all manuals for relevant equipment necessary to perform daily tasks and job requirements.
  • Read and be familiar with Policy and Procedure books, MSDS sheets and their location.
  • Follow appropriate line of reporting. (Charge Nurse, Administrator/Director, Medical Director).

KEY PERFORMANCE MEASURES

Goals and objectives for a defined period of time are subject to revision and are to be established between the Administrator/Director and employee during the performance evaluation. Successful performance of these goals will be based on demonstrated, objective and measurable criterion and are to be discussed at appropriate times during the course of employment.

BACKGROUND REQUISITES

EDUCATION:

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Surgical technician training or certification preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous experience as a Surgical Technician required; two or more years preferred or a demonstrated ability to perform all the aforementioned job tasks and requirements.
  • BLS certification required.

SKILLS / ABILITIES:

  • Good oral / written communication skills.
  • Manual dexterity
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift and transfer patients
  • Maintain confidentiality

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $21.50-$30.75 per hour
