Tax Supervisor Business Focus

Salary Range: $90,000 - $105,000 (DOE)
Position: Full-Time
Location: Hybrid or Remote
Position Summary:
The Tax Supervisor is a technical expert and departmental leader responsible for overseeing complex business tax engagements, with a primary focus on accurate review, high-level preparation, and strategic tax planning. This role requires advanced knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws as they apply to corporations, partnerships, and S corporations. In addition to delivering high-quality tax work, the Tax Supervisor provides guidance to staff through mentoring and training, and supports client relationships by contributing to planning and consulting initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Tax Compliance & Review
- Review business tax returns (1120, 1120S, 1065) prepared by staff (moderate to high complexity)
- Prepare business tax returns of high complexity
- Maintain deep knowledge of current federal and state tax laws
- Ensure compliance with evolving regulations and internal quality standards
Tax Planning & Consulting
- Provide strategic tax planning guidance for business clients
- Analyze financial data to identify tax-saving opportunities
- Contribute to consulting on business structuring or transactions
Staff Coaching & Development
- Provide feedback on reviewed work to help staff grow
- Mentor team members on technical and process topics
- Assist with training and knowledge sharing
Client Collaboration
- Serve as a technical resource in client conversations
- Help manage deliverables and resolve tax-related issues
- Maintain strong, professional client relationships
Education & Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field
- 4+ years of experience in public accounting, focused on business taxation
- CPA or EA credential preferred (or actively pursuing)
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Experience with CCH Axcess or comparable tax software preferred
- Expertise in 1120, 1120S, 1065 returns; strong review skills
- Strong communicator, analytical thinker, and team collaborator
- Strong knowledge of tax law, compliance standards, and tax planning techniques
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in work
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
- Excellent communication, analytical, and mentoring skills
- Self-motivated, proactive, and eager to grow professionally
- Confidence working in a fully cloud-based environment
- Ability to adapt to new technology and tools quickly, including AI-driven platforms
Schedule & Location:
- Full-time, 40 hrs/week standard
- Busy season (13 weeks, JanApr): averages ~50 hrs/week
- Reduced summer hours: 36 hrs/week (Memorial DayLabor Day)
