Mechanical Engineer (Senior / Lead)
Overview
A leading full-service consulting engineering firm is seeking a seasoned Mechanical Engineer with 6+ years of experience in building systems design. The ideal candidate will hold a Professional Engineer (PE) license or be on track to obtain licensure within 12 months. This role offers the opportunity to lead challenging projects, collaborate across disciplines, and contribute to a growing, forward-thinking team. A hybrid/remote schedule is available, with flexibility to balance office collaboration and remote work.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design of HVAC, hydronic, plumbing, and piping systems for a variety of project types including education, municipal, commercial, and institutional facilities.
- Prepare detailed engineering calculations, load analyses, system selections, and equipment sizing.
- Develop construction documents, specifications, reports, and system drawings using Revit/BIM and AutoCAD.
- Oversee and mentor junior engineers and designers, ensuring quality control and technical excellence.
- Collaborate with civil, structural, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and architectural teams to deliver fully coordinated design solutions.
- Conduct site visits, field inspections, and provide construction phase support to verify design intent.
- Ensure compliance with codes and standards (ASHRAE, IMC, IBC, energy codes, etc.).
- Support proposal development, RFP responses, and client presentations as needed.
- Stay current with industry trends and sustainable design practices; promote innovation within the mechanical discipline.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET-accredited preferred).
- 6+ years of mechanical engineering design experience with building systems.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain within 12 months.
- Proficiency with HVAC/plumbing design software, energy modeling tools, and BIM (Revit, AutoCAD).
- Strong knowledge of building codes, mechanical design standards, and sustainability practices.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with proven ability to manage tasks and coordinate across disciplines.
Preferred:
- Experience with institutional, municipal, higher education, or governmental projects.
- Background in commissioning, performance verification, or sustainable design (LEED, energy modeling, etc.).
- Prior client-facing or project management experience.
- Familiarity with Texas codes, permitting processes, and climate-specific design challenges (a plus, but not required).
