Drill Operator - Ditch Witch Bore Machines

We are looking for an experienced Drill Operator skilled in operating Ditch Witch directional boring machines to join our underground utility installation team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of horizontal directional drilling (HDD), be safety-focused, and capable of working independently or as part of a crew to complete trenchless installations of conduit, pipe, or cable.

Key Responsibilities:

• Safely and efficiently operate Ditch Witch horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment to install underground utilities.
• Set up and break down drill site equipment and complete bore paths per job specifications.
• Read and interpret utility maps, job blueprints, and locate markings to plan bore paths.
• Monitor bore progress and make adjustments as needed to avoid underground obstacles.
• Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on Ditch Witch drill rigs and support equipment.
• Coordinate with locators, vac operators, and other crew members to ensure safe, accurate drilling operations.
• Maintain clear communication with supervisors and project managers regarding job progress and site conditions.
• Ensure work complies with all safety regulations, environmental guidelines, and project requirements.
• Maintain accurate records of bore logs, depths, distances, and materials used.
  

Requirements:

• 2+ years of experience operating Ditch Witch bore machines.
• Strong understanding of horizontal directional drilling principles and safe operating practices.
• Ability to read and interpret utility locates, bore plans, and job drawings.
• Basic mechanical knowledge for daily maintenance and small repairs on equipment.
• Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred or willingness to obtain).
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physical labor as needed.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with vacuum excavation support.
• Experience with locating systems (e.g., Ditch Witch Subsite or similar).
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
• CDL Class A or B.
