Job Summary

The Environmental Services Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe and hygienic environment for patients, residents, visitors, and staff by adhering to infection control, safety, and procedural standards. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Emptying waste receptacles
  • Sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors using various tools such as brooms, mops, or powered machines
  • Maintaining cleanliness in patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other designated areas to meet health standards

It is essential to demonstrate proficiency in housekeeping techniques and tools within a healthcare setting to maintain a clean and sterile environment. Proper protective equipment must be worn according to guidelines, and storage areas, equipment, and carts should be kept organized and stocked. Technicians will utilize pagers and other technology as needed and may assist in laundry tasks as appropriate.

Physical Requirements

This role involves significant physical activity, including the use of arms and legs, and requires the ability to climb, lift, balance, walk, stoop, twist, squat, and handle materials. Candidates should be capable of lifting or moving weights of 40-50 lbs and pushing/pulling varying weights on flat surfaces or ramps. The position necessitates being on one’s feet for most of the shift and may involve exposure to noise from operational equipment.

Work Hours

Work hours may vary based on the needs of patients and residents, which could include overtime, on-call duties, and shifts during nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred
  • At least six months of experience in housekeeping or commercial cleaning is preferred
  • Familiarity with computers and prior cleaning experience is advantageous
  • Knowledge of cleaning materials, equipment, methods, and chemicals is beneficial
  • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential
  • Previous custodial experience in a healthcare setting is preferred
