Job Description

Job Description

Michigan Orthopedic Center is a multi-physician surgical practice serving mid-Michigan since 1990. We are committed to providing state-of-the art, high quality orthopedic care and professional, compassionate patient experience. Our sub-specialty fellowship trained surgeons treat complex orthopedic surgical issues including joint replacement of the hip, knee and shoulder, foot and ankle surgery, spinal surgery, fracture surgery, hand, and sports medicine. We are looking for a motivated and energetic full-time medical receptionist. The Receptionist will be responsible for reception, medical records, telephone/patient scheduling, monitoring faxes, and general clerical functions of MOC. This role plays a vital part in creating a welcoming, efficient, and patient-centered experience.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a high school graduate or equivalent; minimum two years medical office/billing experience; demonstrate basic computer skills including Electronic Health Record/Practice Management systems (EHR/PM), familiarity with insurance plans, and effective, service-oriented communication skills.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: As part of our daily operations, we manage the scheduling and rescheduling of patient appointments according to provider templates and office protocols--both in person and over the phone. This includes verifying and updating patient demographics and insurance information, as well as collecting copayments, balances, or any required documentation. Accurate data entry into the electronic health record system is essential, and we ensure that all necessary documentation is scanned, indexed, and filed accordingly.

In this position managing daily office tasks such as checking patients in and out, balancing the daily cash bag, and maintaining a clean and inviting waiting area are all important aspects of our role. Additionally, we process off work/disability forms and medical records requests while strictly maintaining the confidentiality of patient information and their right to privacy.

On the communication front, we answer incoming calls promptly and professionally, schedule appointments for both new and established patients, and send out new patient welcome letters and electronic invites for the patient portal. Calls are directed to the appropriate department or staff member as needed, always adhering to call center workflows and scheduling policies to ensure efficiency and accuracy.

Maintaining a thorough knowledge of provider schedules, appointment types, and office services allows us to provide accurate information to patients regarding office policies, procedures, and appointment details. Even when handling high call volumes, we strive to uphold a positive and professional demeanor, delivering exemplary customer service at every interaction.
