About the role
Responsible for performing underwriting functions in the origination of real estate secured consumer transactions. This role provides consistent, accurate, and quality loan decisions in accordance with the Bank and secondary market investor standards in order to maximize organizational profit and minimize risk or loss.
This role can be located in Rapid City, SD or Cheyenne, WY. This is not a remote position.
What you will do
- Underwrites Conventional, FHA, RD, VA, Bond, Portfolio, and secondary market Jumbo loans following established company, agency and investor guidelines.
- Understand and Underwrite In-House/ Portfolio loans to the Banks Standards.
- Assists manager with day-to-day activities of the underwriting department to ensure quality service levels are met.
- Communicates effectively and engages proactively with loan originators, processors, branch managers, funders and post-closers in regards to loan decisions, assignment of loan conditions, investor guidelines/documentation requirements and other possible loan scenarios.
- Assists manager with team member coaching, development and training.
- Troubleshoots system issues as they arise.
- Recommends and drives process improvements.
- Assists with audits and other projects as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
What you will need
- Bachelor's degree in related field preferred, but not required.
- 3+ years of recent mortgage underwriting experience required.
- Possesses all certifications associated with Conventional, FHA, and VA products.
- General knowledge of federal, state, and regulatory requirements/guidelines related to consumer residential mortgage lending.
- Strong working knowledge of Ability to Repay/Qualified Mortgage Requirement.
