Location: Coastal Oaks Recovery, Port Royal, South Carolina

Located in the heart of the Lowcountry in South Carolina, Coastal Oaks Recovery is a 72-bed substance-use treatment center serving adults aged eighteen and older. Nestled on five serene acres near the coastal waters and wetlands of Port Royal, Coastal Oaks provides a tranquil environment for individuals suffering from addiction to stabilize and embark on their journey toward recovery and wellness.
At Coastal Oaks Recovery, we offer medically monitored detoxification under the direct care of physicians and nurses, supported by a multidisciplinary treatment team. In addition to withdrawal management, our residential treatment services provide a safe and structured environment for 30 to 45 days, ensuring that each patient builds a solid foundation of recovery skills prior to discharge.
Our evidence-based programming includes group therapy, individual counseling, family programming, and specialized care tailored to meet individual needs. Position Purpose
The PRN Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides on-call, as-needed nursing support to maintain high standards of patient care at Coastal Oaks Recovery. This role involves administering medications, monitoring patient health, and supporting the interdisciplinary team in delivering exceptional care. The PRN LPN is an essential part of the team, ensuring continuity of care during peak times, staff absences, or increased patient needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Care and Medication Administration
- Administer prescribed medications and nursing treatments in alignment with patient care plans.
- Conduct health assessments and monitor patient progress, documenting observations in patient records.
- Provide patient education regarding health maintenance, grooming, and medication management.
- Identify and address medication-related concerns, such as side effects or adverse reactions.
Therapeutic Support
- Support therapeutic programs by assisting in group or individual activities and interventions.
- Serve as a role model, fostering a positive and safe environment for recovery.
- Use verbal and non-verbal therapeutic techniques to build rapport and encourage patient participation.
Collaboration and Flexibility
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to provide seamless care.
- Participate in care planning and ensure timely communication with team members regarding patient status.
- Adapt to variable schedules, shifts, and duties to meet the needs of the facility.
Compliance and Documentation
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care, medication administration, and patient progress.
- Adhere to HIPAA and Coastal Oaks Recovery policies to ensure patient confidentiality.
- Follow safety protocols and maintain proper handling of medical supplies and equipment.
Requirements:
Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in nursing procedures and the safe administration of medications.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with patients and team members.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and remain calm in high-pressure situations.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
- Knowledge of substance use disorders and holistic recovery approaches is a plus.
Education and Experience
- Required: Current South Carolina LPN license.
- Preferred: At least one year of experience in psychiatric, substance use treatment, or a similar healthcare setting.
- Completion of a pharmacology course or documented competency.
Licensure/Certification
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Additional certifications in addiction nursing or psychiatric care are advantageous.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting of up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to varying patient needs.
- Work primarily indoors in a temperature-controlled environment.
