Job Title: Pre-K Paraprofessional
Classification: Full-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt
Reports To: Principal
SUMMARY:
To support the academic, social-emotional, and developmental growth of Pre-K scholars through consistent classroom assistance, student supervision, and collaboration with the lead teacher. The Pre-K Paraprofessional plays a critical role in fostering a nurturing, structured, and engaging early childhood environment aligned with AXL Academy's culture, safety expectations, and instructional goals.
Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:Instructional Support and Early Childhood Development
- Assist the lead Pre-K teacher in implementing daily lesson plans, routines, and developmentally appropriate activities.
- Support early literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional learning through small-group and individual instruction.
- Facilitate hands-on, play-based learning experiences that promote exploration and curiosity.
- Reinforce classroom expectations, routines, and transitions to build consistency and independence.
- Provide individualized support for scholars, including redirection, behavior guidance, and emotional regulation.
- Assist in observing and documenting student progress as directed by the teacher.
Student Supervision and Care
- Supervise students during classroom activities, centers, transitions, lunch, recess, arrival, and dismissal.
- Support bathroom routines, handwashing, and other self-care skills appropriate to Pre-K learners.
- Ensure a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment.
- Maintain active engagement and close supervision of scholars at all times.
- Support fieldwork trips by actively engaging with scholars and ensuring safety and participation.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with the lead teacher to implement instructional strategies and behavior supports.
- Communicate effectively with teachers, staff, and families in a respectful and professional manner.
- Collaborate with Crew Culture Leaders and support staff to meet the diverse needs of scholars.
- Adapt to classroom needs with flexibility and a student-centered mindset.
Culture and Professional Engagement
- Attend all required staff meetings, professional development days, and school events, including Student-Led Conferences (SLCs), Expedition Nights, and community gatherings.
- Uphold AXL's restorative practices and equity-based expectations in all student interactions.
- Foster a warm, inclusive, and supportive classroom culture.
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and reliability in all aspects of the role.

Qualification Requirements:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with young children in a structured environment
- Patience, flexibility, and a nurturing approach to student support
- Commitment to equity, inclusiveness, and school-wide professionalism
Preferred:
- Experience working with early childhood or Pre-K students
- Bilingual or multilingual skills
- Familiarity with early childhood development and classroom management strategies
- Proficiency with Google Suite, Chromebooks, or educational technology tools
Physical Requirements:
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and actively engage with young children on the floor or at child-level. Must be able to lift, carry, and assist children or materials up to 50 pounds. This position includes outdoor supervision and participation in fieldwork.
Expected Days:
Pre-K Paraprofessionals are expected to be in-person each day that school is in session, including professional development days, student-led conferences, and school events. This position observes all scheduled school breaks and holidays.
