Position Summary
The Charge Nurse oversees and coordinates patient care activities during the assigned shift, providing direction to both licensed and non-licensed nursing personnel. This role plays a key part in staff development, performance evaluation, and maintaining a high standard of care. You will serve as the on-site leader in the absence of management, support crisis response efforts, and help ensure a safe, therapeutic environment for all patients.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead, organize, and direct nursing staff to ensure appropriate staffing ratios and high-quality care

  • Coordinate services with providers, patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams

  • Act as the on-shift leader, maintaining accountability for program operations

  • Monitor program safety and lead crisis response when needed

  • Support staff through coaching, training, and performance feedback

  • Maintain clear, timely, and confidential documentation and communication

  • Provide direct patient care while modeling best practices

  • Participate in staff meetings, committees, and ongoing program development

  • Keep leadership informed of shift activities, concerns, and outcomes

What You Bring

Education

  • Associate degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred

Licensure/Certification

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Kansas

  • ANCC Psychiatric Nursing Certification preferred

  • Valid driver’s license and auto insurance required

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of psychiatric nursing experience or ANCC certification in psychiatric nursing

  • Experience working with children and adolescents

Preferred Experience

  • More than 2 years supervising RNs in a psychiatric care setting

  • Experience with electronic medication administration records (eMAR) and electronic health records (EHR)
