ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW

POSITION SUMMARY

The Terminal Operations Controller serves as the primary point of contact (POC) for daily air carrier operations at the airport, coordinating terminal and ramp usage, gate assignments, and deicing activities. Responsibilities include real-time adjustments to gate and aircraft parking, ensuring accurate flight information displays, monitoring terminal occupancy for safety compliance, and supporting contingency plans. The position works with the Airport Security Coordinator on compliance with security requirements, coordinates emergency medical responses, monitors access control, and documents incidents. Shift work, mandatory overtime, and close communication with airline and ATC staff are essential for maintaining safe, efficient ramp operations.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Serve as initial airport point of contact (POC) for all daily air carrier operational matters, escalating matters to the management team as required.
  • Coordinate usage of terminal facilities including air carrier ramp and deicing pad/collection system.
  • Distribute daily gate assignments to local air carrier ground handling providers using the Gate Management System.
  • Adjust gate and aircraft parking/RON assignments in real-time, based on contributing factors including, but not limited, to air carrier scheduling priority, flight load factors, passenger flows, holding space limitations, required aircraft repositioning, weather, or other factors contributing to irregular operations.
  • Confirm accuracy of flight information displays (FIDS) and coordinate with internal departments to correct any identified discrepancies, ensuring information is manually updated as required.
  • Monitor terminal occupancy to ensure compliance with local fire code and other public safety requirements.
  • Anticipate and communicate the need to activate operational contingency plans based on air carrier flight schedules and current terminal occupancy.
  • Supports the Airport Security Coordinator to ensure the airport meets all 49 CFR 1542 requirements.
  • Coordinate appropriate medical response with mutual aid EMS.
  • Document irregular events through airport’s incident report and notification systems.
  • Monitor the airport’s access control and CCTV systems and report any unauthorized entry of persons or vehicles in the terminal and on the AOA in compliance with TSR 1542.
  • Position involves shift work and mandatory overtime.
  • Maintain acceptable attendance and performance of required functions.
  • Monitor and communicate on aviation frequencies.
  • Coordinate with airline staff and Air Traffic Control (ATC) regarding ramp operations, including deicing and irregular operations.
  • Work closely with airport operations personnel to ensure safe ramp operations.
  • Follow all terminal operating policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.


COMPENSATION

Starting wage at $24.00 per hour. Avports offers a generous benefits package to all full-time employees.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus in airport management preferred.
  • Previous experience in airport operations or related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a complex environment without direct supervision.
  • Previous experience in the performance of airport emergency planning.
  • Must possess effective public communications, written and verbal skills.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to obtain and sustain a valid driver’s license in the person’s state of residence and maintain driver record compatible with Company’s insurance company’s criteria.
  • Must be willing and able to work nights, weekends, and holidays, as scheduled.
  • Extended shifts and/or callbacks may be necessary. Periodic shift rotation can be anticipated to maintain familiarity with all operational situations.
  • Ability to possess ramp, airport, and aircraft knowledge and qualifications.
