Job Summary:

Water & Environmental Technologies (WET) is an employee-owned technical consulting firm, headquartered in Butte, Montana, that provides our clients with geoscience and engineering solutions on projects throughout Montana, Wyoming, and the Western US. WET is seeking an entry level full time self-motivated Water Resurce Specialist in our Worland office to support a wide range of water resource management, surveying, and drafting projects across Wyoming. Job duties will include field data collection, mapping, surveying, and technical support for water rights management services, land development, and water infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have familiarity with agricultural operations, experience or education in surveying, drafting, or water rights, or water resources, or a related field with a strong interest in applying technical skills to water resource management projects. This position will be located in the Worland office and will support projects across the Rocky Mountain and Pacific regions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field reconnaissance, site inspections, and on-site investigations related to water rights, land surveys, and water infrastructure projects.
  • Perform surveying tasks including GPS data collection, topographic mapping, and property surveys.
  • Utilize AutoCAD and/or GIS software to create and update maps, survey plats, and water rights records.
  • Interpret aerial imagery and manipulate topographic data for reservoir design, irrigation planning, and land developments. Assist with water measurement, mapping, permitting, petitioning, and compliance processes related to Wyoming water rights.
  • Research historical land and water rights records and prepare detailed technical reports.
  • Apply knowledge of Wyoming water law, PLSS, and GIS to support water resource and land management projects.
  • Interact with clients, landowners, engineers, surveyors, and government agencies to communicate findings and recommendations. Manage tasks independently while seeking guidance when needed to ensure accuracy and efficiencies.
  • Support proposal preparation and project estimation when required.

Qualifications:

  • Water Resource Specialist candidates must possess an Associates or bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Water Resources, Natural Resources, Engineering, or related field, with 3 or more years professional experience. Associated degree with applicable level of experience will also be considered.
  • Prior experience with Public Land Survey System (PLSS) preferred.
  • Knowledge of Wyoming water rights is a plus.
  • Candidates must be self-motivated, creative and have strong organizational, interpersonal communication, writing and presentation skills. Candidates must have the ability to function with little direction to meet project goals and take conceptual direction for project tasks and develop detailed design plans and specifications.
  • Candidates must possess strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, Google Earth, etc. Experience with or ability to learn AutoCAD, GIS, and other survey software (Leica) is a plus.
  • Possession of a valid Driver’s License and be insurable on company driving policy.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.

Work Environment:

  • Combination of office work and fieldwork in various weather conditions.
  • Will require some overnight travel to multiple sites and remote locations.

Compensation and Benefits:

The base salary for this position will be based upon experience, education, location, and other compensable factors. In addition to Salary WET employees are eligible for cost of living increases, occasional discretionary bonuses throughout the year, plus a performance-based, annual incentive bonus at the end of each year. Moving expenses may be reimbursable if the successful candidate is required to relocate to the position’s base location.
