Job Description\n

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg Tele RN for night shifts caring for ortho, uro, and neuro patients in an acute care setting, requiring a WI or compact RN license and BLS certification.

\n \n Responsibilities\n

  • Position is in the Med Surg/Telemetry unit with a focus on orthopedic trauma, vascular, urology, neuro-spine, OBGYN oncology, and acute medical patients
  • Unit consists of 29 beds and serves an adult population
  • Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4-5 during the day and 1:5-6 at night
  • Assignment is for 13 weeks with 12-hour night shifts (1900-0730)
  • Every other weekend and every other holiday coverage required
  • Technology and equipment used include CPAP, BIPAP, and high flow oxygen therapy, with respiratory therapy support available
  • Cerner EMR in use, transitioning to Epic
  • Requires floating to other adult medical/surgical units as needed
  • No on-call or standby requirements
  • Block scheduling provided based on staffing needs
  • Primary responsibilities include providing nursing care for orthopedic, vascular, urologic, neuro-spine, OBGYN oncology, and acute medical patients
  • RNs are not required to interpret telemetry strips; telemetry techs monitor 24/7
  • Charge nurse takes a patient assignment and house supervisor is present on all shifts
  • Nursing assistants are available with varying coverage based on shift
  • 1-day computer orientation and 1-2 precepted floor orientation shifts provided
  • Any color, clean, and professional scrubs are allowed
  • Clock in/out procedures required onsite
  • Assignment is at a Level II trauma center

\n \n Requirements\n

  • Active WI or compact RN license required by start date
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA required
  • At least 1-2 years of recent acute care nursing experience
  • Experience titrating drips including heparin, and occasionally nitro, bivalirudin, Cardizem, and insulin following prescribed nomogram
  • Two professional references required, including one supervisor reference and one peer or supervisor reference
  • No BSN required for this position
  • Prior Med Surg/Telemetry experience required
  • Former staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior for consideration
  • Local candidates within 80 miles are accepted but subject to pay adjustments
