Job Description

Job DescriptionLHH has partnered with a large and well-known nonprofit organization to identify a Senior Accounting Manager! This position oversees the organization's day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls and ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial data, supports audits, strengthens accounting processes, and provides strategic financial insights to leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Operations & General Ledger Management

  • Lead daily accounting operations, including journal entries, accruals, allocations, and reconciliations.
  • Oversee the full general ledger close process (monthly, quarterly, year-end), ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare and review account analyses, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial reporting packages.
  • Maintain the chart of accounts and ensure accurate classification of transactions across multiple programs.

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support preparation of audit schedules, Form 990, grant reporting, and other compliance filings.
  • Ensure adherence to GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and restricted funding guidelines.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis

  • Partner with program and department leaders to support annual budgeting and periodic forecasting.
  • Analyze variances, trends, and key metrics; provide recommendations to inform decision-making.
  • Maintain budgeting tools and templates, and provide training on financial processes.

Process Improvement & Systems Management

  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, increase efficiency, and strengthen internal controls.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for accounting procedures, policies, and system workflows.
  • Oversee financial system enhancements and collaborate with IT on improvements.

Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Support

  • Supervise accounting staff, providing coaching, direction, and professional development.
  • Collaborate with development, programs, HR, and operations teams to ensure accurate and timely financial information.
  • Foster a culture of stewardship, accuracy, and service orientation.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 5-7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including nonprofit experience with multi-program, restricted, or grant-funded environments.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Experience managing month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency with accounting systems (e.g., Sage Intacct, Great Plains) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical thinking, organizational skills, and attention to detail.

Preferred

  • CPA certification.
  • Experience working with CRM-to-accounting system integrations (e.g., Salesforce → Intacct).
  • Supervisory or team-lead experience.
  • Experience participating in annual audits and supporting IRS Form 990 preparation.

Pay Details: $120,000.00 to $155,000.00 per year
