Core Responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals to patients under the supervision of a physician or nuclear medicine team. You will perform various diagnostic imaging procedures, including but not limited to cardiac studies, bone scans, thyroid imaging, and renal function tests. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring accurate radioisotope administration and optimal patient positioning for imaging acquisition.
You will operate and maintain sophisticated nuclear medicine imaging equipment, including gamma cameras and SPECT systems, while adhering to strict quality control protocols. Documentation of patient information, radiation exposure, and imaging results will be completed with meticulous attention to detail and regulatory compliance. You will collaborate effectively with radiologists, cardiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care and diagnostic accuracy.
Patient safety and comfort are paramount. You will educate patients about procedures, address their concerns, and ensure they receive clear instructions before and after imaging studies. Additionally, you will maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment while following all radiation safety guidelines and regulatory standards set by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and state health departments.
Your responsibilities will also include troubleshooting equipment issues, maintaining accurate inventory of radiopharmaceuticals, and participating in continuing education to stay current with technological advancements and best practices in nuclear medicine.
Must-Have Requirements
To succeed in this position, you must hold a current certification as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) from the American Society of Radiologic Technologists or equivalent credential recognized by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. A minimum of two years of recent nuclear medicine experience is required, with demonstrated proficiency in diagnostic imaging procedures and radiopharmaceutical preparation.
You must possess a valid driver's license and be willing to travel on temporary assignments. Non-local candidates residing at least sixty miles from the facility are preferred for this travel position. A high school diploma or GED is mandatory, along with a current CPR certification.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for interacting with patients, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members. You must demonstrate the ability to work independently while maintaining attention to detail in a fast-paced clinical environment. Knowledge of radiation safety protocols and the ability to comply with all regulatory requirements are critical.
Physical stamina is necessary, as the role involves standing for extended periods, lifting patients, and maneuvering imaging equipment. You must be organized, adaptable, and capable of managing multiple patients and procedures simultaneously.
