Location: Houston, TX
Schedule: Monday–Friday

Job Type: Contract

Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Histology Technician to support a high-volume, quality-driven laboratory within a leading pediatric healthcare environment in the Houston area. This role is focused on routine histology with an emphasis on precision, quality, and adherence to established laboratory standards and turnaround times.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Validate specimen identification, sample type, and appropriateness prior to processing
  • Process tissue specimens using automated tissue processors following correct protocols and reagent sequencing
  • Embed tissue and cut sections using a microtome, maintaining quality standards for thickness and consistency
  • Meet productivity expectations for block and slide preparation while maintaining high-quality output
  • Perform routine and special stains, including AFB, Gram, and other specialized histological staining procedures
  • Coverslip, label, and distribute slides accurately and in a timely manner for pathologist review
  • Assist with procedures including liver biopsies, fine needle aspirations, and fresh specimen handling
  • Operate and troubleshoot laboratory equipment such as cryostats, microtomes, tissue processors, and stainers
  • Maintain accurate records and perform specimen/result inquiries as needed
  • Follow all laboratory safety, quality control, and compliance standards


Requirements:

  • HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology required
  • Associate’s degree in Histology, Biological Sciences, or related field required
  • Minimum of 2 years of paid histology experience (hospital or reference laboratory preferred)
  • Strong embedding and microtomy skills required
  • Experience with special stains and frozen sections strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with non-gynecological cytology processing is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality over speed
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize workload in a fast-paced laboratory environment
