Position Overview

We are seeking a Lead Collections Operator to oversee and support a team responsible for the operation and maintenance of water distribution and wastewater collection systems. This role combines hands-on fieldwork with team leadership, with a strong focus on sewer system maintenance, plumbing, and safety compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Operations

• Lead, train, and supervise collection and distribution operators in daily field operations
• Plan, assign, and oversee work activities to ensure efficiency and safety
• Prepare pre-task plans and conduct hazard analyses prior to job execution
• Provide technical guidance and support on complex maintenance and repair tasks

System Maintenance & Field Work

• Install, maintain, and troubleshoot water and wastewater systems, including hydrants, valves, manholes, meters, and backflow devices
• Perform sewer line installations, repairs, and pressure checks
• Clean and clear sewer lines, perform wet well cleaning, and repair leaks and breaks
• Adjust manhole covers, replace frames, and complete point repairs on sewer systems

Equipment Operation

• Operate and maintain heavy equipment such as backhoes, forklifts, jet vac trucks, cranes, and dump trucks
• Perform trench work, excavation, compaction, and site restoration (concrete, asphalt, landscaping)

Maintenance & Compliance

• Perform routine and preventive maintenance on all equipment and systems
• Generate, manage, and close work orders; maintain accurate records and reports
• Conduct site inspections and ensure compliance with safety regulations and permitting requirements

Customer Service & Emergency Response

• Respond to customer inquiries and service complaints professionally and efficiently
• Participate in rotating on-call duty, including after-hours, weekends, and holidays

Qualifications

Required

• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid Driver’s License
• Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tanker endorsement
• Florida FDEP Class 3 Distribution Operator License
• FWPCOA Class C Collections License
• Experience in water/wastewater collection and distribution system maintenance
• Strong plumbing and sewer system experience

Preferred

• Construction experience with team supervision responsibilities
• Experience operating heavy equipment

Work Environment

• Field-based role involving outdoor work in varying conditions
• Requires physical labor including lifting, digging, and equipment operation
• Exposure to wastewater systems, construction environments, and heavy machinery
