SUMMARY
The Senior Accountant plays a key role in the month-end and year-end close processes, preparation of financial statements, and maintenance of internal controls. This role requires a strong understanding of GAAP, technical accounting proficiency, and the ability to collaborate across departments. The Senior Accountant will take ownership of complex account reconciliations, assist in managing audits, support process improvements, and mentor junior accounting staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own and manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial results in accordance with GAAP.
- Prepare and review complex journal entries and supporting reconciliations, including accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, leases, revenue recognition, intercompany, and other key accounts.
- Consolidate financial results across multiple entities, including elimination entries and intercompany reconciliations.
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements, including the balance sheet, income statement and statement of cash flows.
- Analyze and explain fluctuations in financial statement line items, investigating variances and preparing supporting commentary for management.
- Assist in drafting and reviewing internal management reporting packages and board presentations.
- Prepare and maintain detailed workpapers and account reconciliations supporting financial statement balances and disclosures.
- Collaborate with FP&A and department leaders to ensure alignment between operational performance and financial reporting.
- Provide accounting support for special projects, including new transactions, accounting system implementations, and M&A activity.
- Assist in managing external audits, including preparing audit schedules, responding to inquiries, ensuring completeness and accuracy of requested materials.
- Partner with the Assistant Controller to implement enhancements to financial reporting processes and deliverables.
- Partner with cross-functional teams (e.g., operations, HR) to improve accounting workflows and support strategic initiatives.
- Ensure accuracy and consistency in financial data across systems and reporting tools.
- Contribute to the development, documentation, and enforcement of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Identify and drive process improvements and automation opportunities to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
- Stay up to date on accounting standards and regulatory changes, assessing their impact on company financials and reporting practices.
- Provide excellent customer service to all stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a corporate or public accounting environment.
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in accounting systems (e.g., Sage, NetSuite, Oracle, SAP) and advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, etc.).
- Demonstrated experience with month-end close, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to collaborate across departments and work independently with minimal supervision.
