Job Description

The Chemist plays a key role in ensuring smooth laboratory operations and high-quality production by performing analytical testing, reviewing results, and supporting quality control activities. This position offers an excellent entry-level opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a manufacturing laboratory, work independently, solve problems, and build a strong foundation for a long-term career in analytical chemistry.

Responsibilities

  • Handle and use laboratory chemicals safely at all times, following all safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Test, approve, and release batches for production by performing High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) analyses.
  • Perform a variety of wet chemistry tests, including pH measurements, viscosity determinations, titrations, and other basic analyses.
  • Actively learn, follow, and apply all analytical testing procedures and specific customer methods.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain laboratory equipment, including coordinating with equipment manufacturers to restore functionality in a timely manner.
  • Observe and uphold Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), as well as strong safety and housekeeping standards in the lab.
  • Collaborate closely with Quality Control and other personnel to support production and quality objectives.
  • Verify batch sheets for accuracy and compliance with specifications and requirements.
  • Perform batch adjustment and mass balance calculations to ensure correct formulation and yield.
  • Carry out Out-of-Specification (OOS) procedures, including documenting findings and communicating results to the customer.
  • Enter analytical results into the appropriate systems, review data entries for accuracy, and submit final results to customers.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a closely related science field.
  • At least 1 year of experience working in an analytical laboratory environment.
  • Practical knowledge and hands-on experience with High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).
  • Experience performing wet chemistry techniques, including pH, viscosity, and titration analyses.
  • Understanding and application of analytical chemistry principles in a laboratory setting.
  • Ability to follow detailed analytical methods and customer-specific testing procedures accurately.
  • Competence in troubleshooting basic laboratory equipment issues and coordinating repairs when needed.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy in testing, documentation, and reporting.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a Quality Control or similar team.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience within FDA- or EPA-regulated environments is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and strong general laboratory housekeeping habits.
  • Exposure to chromatography techniques, including HPLC and gas chromatography.
  • General experience in analytical chemistry, quality control, and laboratory-based problem solving.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tests and tasks efficiently in a production-focused lab.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing laboratory environment where the Chemist works hands-on with chemicals, analytical instruments, and production samples. The position involves operating and maintaining equipment such as HPLC systems and other wet chemistry instruments. The standard shift runs from approximately 4:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, supporting production schedules and quality control needs. The work setting emphasizes safety, good housekeeping, and adherence to Good Laboratory Practice, with a culture that encourages independent work, continuous learning, and problem solving in a fast-paced, production-oriented facility.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ellenwood, GA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $27.00/hr.
