Job Summary

The purpose of this classification is to perform detailed and complex professional work in accounting and financial management for revenues and disbursing court fees to appropriate departments or agencies. Work in this position involves preparing and transmitting reports to designated agencies. The Assistant Court Accountant reports directly to the Senior Court Accountant Manager.

Essential Functions

Prepares and submits deposits; conducts reconciliations of assigned accounts and funds; and assists in the development and implementation of accounting controls, policies and procedures to properly account for income generated by assigned court.

Performs customer service functions; answers question and provides information related to court procedures, records management, court hearings, and other court activities.

Serves as a financial analyst and generates reports for decision-makers; compiles information upon request of the Clerk of Superior Court; assists with analyzing financial trends and the impact of proposed legislation and policies.

Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures: receives and reviews various documentation, including bank statements, end-user documents, and system generated reports; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate,; prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records.

Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.

Communicates with County officials, supervisor, other County employees, clients, third party service contractors, laborers, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems; provides technical assistance on financial issues for Clerks Office personnel.

Assists with disbursement of garnishment payments, restitution, and cash bonds funds. Assist with disbursement of monthly funds and reports in accordance to Georgia State Laws.

Serves as back up to the Senior Court Accountant; Performs other related duties as required.

Additional Duties: The employee in this classification may be expected to perform any related duties as required by proper authority.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all County and departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Data Utilization: Requires the ability to evaluate, audit, deduce, and/or assess data using established criteria. Includes exercising discretion in determining actual or probable consequences and in referencing such evaluation to identify and select alternatives.

Human Interaction: Requires the ability to interact with customers, including reviewing details, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, and evaluating data.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information., such as invoices, case reports, deposit slips, budget documentation, legal documents, court orders, accounts receivable documentation, etc.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in critical and/or unexpected situations involving high risk to the organization.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.

Working Conditions

Work is typically performed in an office environment.


Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or related field
  2. Minimum of Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in processing and managing financial records.
  1. OR have a combination of education, training and experience that is equivalent to #1 and #2 above that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
  1. Valid Georgia Driver’s License
  2. Maintain affirmation as an Accountant and/or possess banking skills.
