Job Description

The Role

The Assistant Account Executive (AAE) plays a supporting role across Outcast account teams by helping out with different communications programs, projects and initiatives across teams. While this is Outcast’s entry-level full-time position, AAEs are an integral part of account teams and are expected to deliver professional, excellent quality work to clients on a daily basis.

AAEs manage assigned tasks, maintain responsibility and accountability for their workloads, and anticipate team and client needs.

Strong AAEs demonstrate excellent attention to detail, deliver polished work, and are tasked with keeping their team(s) organized and informed through various foundational account materials. Under the direction of senior team members, AAEs will progressively gain direct exposure to clients.

What You Do

You’ll play a hands-on role across 3-4 tech-focused client teams, with exposure to some of the most exciting brands in the industry. Your day-to-day might include:

- Deliver on client goals by ensuring projects, research, and tasks align with business objectives.

- Proactively identify opportunities and challenges by monitoring the news, trends, and industry shifts, and flagging why clients should care.

- Maintain clear, timely communication across Slack, email, and meetings, taking responsibility for status updates and team account organization.

- Demonstrate proactivity: bring fresh ideas, take initiative, jump in where needed, and raise your hand to solve problems.

- Write with impact: produce well-crafted, accurate, creative first drafts of pitches, press releases, media alerts, award submissions, speaking proposals, and social content.

- Build media and analyst lists that convert to coverage and relationships.

- Track and measure campaign success by monitoring coverage, creating “in the news” reports, editorial calendars, trend digests, and weekly status updates.

- Attend and contribute to client meetings by capturing key takeaways, managing action items, timelines, and follow-ups.

- Manage workload effectively: deliver high-quality work on time, flag risks early, and collaborate with account leads for seamless execution.

- Research and storytelling: identify narratives, pitch reporters, schedule briefings, and support media training with briefing docs.

- Leverage AI tools and emerging tech to improve writing, research, and workflow efficiency.

- Monitor and engage on social platforms—track trends, competitors’ activity, and draft/schedule content for channels like X and LinkedIn.

- Support brainstorms, build research reports, and contribute to pitch decks that move the needle for clients.

- Mentor and support junior talent by providing feedback, guidance, and growth opportunities.

- Invest in continuous learning by participating in internal training, team meetings, and development programs.

What You’ll Need:

- 2+ years of PR or communications experience (agency and/or tech background a plus)

- Strong writing, editing, research, and verbal communication skills

- High attention to detail and ability to juggle multiple priorities with grace

- Positive energy, a collaborative spirit, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves

- Passion for technology, media, and the evolving communications landscape

- A bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or related field

- A sense of humor—and the grit to thrive in a fast-paced environment

- Willingness to work 2 days/week from one of our office hubs (San Francisco or New York)
