Job DescriptionJOB DESCRIPTIONJOB TITLE: Mail Distribution Receiving ClerkSUMMARYReceives, processes, and delivers incoming USPS mail and private carrier shipments (FedEx, UPS, DHL) for the Homewood campus and satellite locations. Manages mail distribution using electronic tracking systems and ensures timely, accurate delivery to designated departments and offices.ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Receive and verify incoming shipments against carrier documentation, mark with purchase order numbers and delivery information
- Sort and deliver interdepartmental, inter-campus, USPS, and private carrier mail using established procedures and web-based directory
- Transport mail and shipments between Homewood, JHU Eastern, Keswick, Mt. Washington, East Baltimore, and other Baltimore Metropolitan locations using JHU cargo vehicles
- Use TrackPad electronic tracking system to record deliveries and upload data to central database
- Pick up outgoing mail and shipments from departments, transport to appropriate distribution or collection centers
- Maintain records of special materials received (non-purchase order items, compressed gas cylinders, dry ice, trash containers)
- Assist with training new employees
- Maintain equipment, vehicles, and work areas in clean, orderly condition
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSEducation & Experience:
- High school degree or equivalent preferred
- Two years of related experience preferred
- Valid driver's license with good driving record
Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to drive light delivery trucks or cargo vans
- Familiarity with mail and shipping services, mail handling, and sorting procedures
- Ability to read and maintain records, process mail, and read bills of lading and labels
- Physical ability to lift and transport mail and objects up to 70 lbs., push/pull up to 250 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, and climb stairs on a continuous basis
- Proficiency with technology including personal computers, electronic tracking systems (TrackPad), and data entry
- Strong customer service skills to interact professionally with faculty, students, staff, and the public
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Regular standing, walking, lifting, and transporting materials
- Driving throughout Baltimore metropolitan area
- Climbing stairs and moving between campus locations
