CDR Maguire Inc., a national multi-disciplinary engineering firm, is seeking a qualified Designer IV with 8+ years of experience for our Allentown, PA office. This role will be responsible for collaborating with other surveyors, engineers, or designers on projects for state, regional, local, and private clients performing a variety of tasks in the preparation of plans and/or tasks on multiple projects and checking the work of others. The position will function as a senior designer in the development of engineering plans related to all facets of the surveying.

Essential Functions

  • Assist the Work Group Leader in supervising the efforts of the survey project team.
  • Perform highway and/or survey design tasks with minimal supervision and guidance.
  • Generate CADD drawings and perform design tasks using Bentley MicroStation and/or Civil 3D.
  • Interpret field survey data.
  • Perform required calculations, computation of quantities, and meet submission requirements/specifications.
  • Assist in the preparation of drawing plans related to surveying and highway.
  • Prepare design submissions for review agencies and/or client including reports.
  • Prepare survey crew with documentation to support their daily task, review completeness of fieldnotes, edit and process field data obtained, and evaluate project progression.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or other technical school graduate.
  • Minimum eight (8) years of experience in a highway/survey design setting.
  • Attain training prerequisites as necessary to fulfill job duties.
  • Knowledge of PennDOT and other clients' design procedures, specifications, and plan presentation format.
  • Knowledge of highway design and field survey concepts.
  • Knowledge of CDR-M Survey/Design and Office Procedures.
  • Skilled in using Bentley MicroStation/Inroads and or MicroDesk AutoCad/Civil 3D.
  • Knowledge of PennDOT and AASHTO standards.
  • Knowledge of plan presentation of ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, subdivision plans, property surveys, and other plan submissions related to survey.
  • Knowledge of written communication formats, technical terms, and composition.
  • Skilled in using Trimble Business Center, and StarNET,
  • Ability to use computer software and other online resources.
  • Skilled in operating survey equipment, data collectors, and use of survey field codes.
  • Skilled in operating office equipment such as plotter, copy machine, and print machine.
  • Ability to perform less complex highway tasks independently and more complex highway engineering/surveying tasks with supervision.
  • Ability to perform courthouse research, obtain record documentation, and create figures based on the record description(s).
  • Ability to communicate with coworkers and clients.
