Job Description:
Coordinates, develops, and oversees the comprehensive religious education and faith formation programs of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Parish; working under the direct supervision of the pastor, ensures that all spiritual formation, sacramental preparation, and catechesis align with the teachings of the Catholic Church and archdiocesan guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Envision, plan, and direct religious education programs for children, youth, and adults. Direct youth ministry.
- Coordinate preparation and celebrations for the Sacraments of Baptism, First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, Confirmation, and the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults/Children - OCIA
- Recruit, screen, train, and spiritually support volunteer catechists. Provide on-going spiritual formation for catechists and volunteers at all levels through appropriate means such as retreats, workshops, conference etc. Ensure catechists and volunteers meet diocesan certification requirements and safe environment training.
- Oversee registration, select approved curriculum materials, and manage the annual catechetical budget.
- Collaborate with the pastor, school principal, and other parish staff and attend parish events and staff meetings.
- Coordinate children's liturgy and Vacation Bible School.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Faith & Character: Must be a fully initiated, practicing Catholic in good standing, living a life consistent with Church teachings. With Archdiocesan Catechetical Leader Certification.
- Education & Experience: Master's degree in theology or religious education or related field, with experience in teaching, parish or liturgical ministry.
- Skills: Strong organizational, communication and leadership skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office, google workspace, parish database, etc. Must have a sound understanding of Church documents on catechesis (e.g., Directory for Catechesis).
- Availability: flexible scheduling, available in evening and monthly meetings, and weekend classes and events.
- Safe Environment Training: Must complete Safe Environment Training and submit a background screening before an application can be finalized.
