FULL DESCRIPTION: The Purchasing Agent is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring raw materials, components, and services required to support the operation of an industrial manufacturing environment. This role ensures timely availability of high-quality supplies and raw materials while optimizing cost and supplier performance. The ideal candidate has experience in the PVF (pipes valves and fittings) industrial manufacturing environment and can interpret technical specifications.
The selected candidate will be responsible for:
Procurement & Sourcing
- Source and procure raw materials (carbon steel pipe and bar), machining components, tooling, and MRO (maintenance, repair, and operations) supplies.
- Evaluate supplier capabilities, pricing, lead times, and quality standards.
- Develop and maintain a reliable supplier base for critical and long-lead items.
Vendor Management
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, and terms with suppliers to achieve cost savings and favorable conditions.
- Monitor vendor performance (quality, delivery, responsiveness) and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Build strategic partnerships with key vendors to support business operations and urgent repair timelines.
Operational Support
- Work closely with production, quality and maintenance teams to source required equipment and materials that meet specifications and timelines.
- Expedite orders to meet urgent customer sales schedules and minimize production downtime.
Compliance & Quality
- Ensure all purchases meet company quality standards and industry requirements.
- Verify certifications (material test reports, compliance documents) where required.
- Adhere to company policies and relevant regulatory standards.
The selected candidate will also possess:
- High School Diploma required and minimum of three years' experience in sales in a business to business (B2B) environment.
- PVF industrial knowledge is a plus but not required.
- Strong selling and communication skills, energetic, motivated and a team player.
- Ability to interact with customers in a courteous, professional and efficient manner while following company policies.
- Strong computer skills: using word, excel, DOS and Outlook based applications.
- Math computational skills required with a good understanding on how to calculate mark-up and margin.
Salary Range: $24-29/hour
