Senior Drilling Engineer

Salary: $162,000 – 200,000

Location: Houston, TX (Hybrid schedule)

Join our client, a leading and growing O&G company, as a Senior Drilling Engineer, supporting safe, efficient, and cost-effective well delivery. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise in drilling engineering, strong leadership skills, and a proven ability to manage complex projects and mentor others.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead well design, planning, and execution to ensure safety, compliance, and performance objectives are met.
  • Identify and mitigate well control and process safety risks throughout drilling operations.
  • Oversee permitting, regulatory compliance, and adherence to company and industry standards.
  • Manage crisis and emergency response planning and execution.
  • Provide engineering oversight on casing design, cementing, and wellhead recovery.
  • Supervise managed pressure drilling, drilling fluids, and equipment assurance processes.
  • Ensure cost management, accurate budgeting, and cost-conscious decision-making.
  • Coach and mentor junior engineers while promoting teamwork and continuous improvement.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Petroleum, Mechanical, or related field).
  • Minimum 10 years of upstream well construction and drilling experience.
  • Expertise in HPHT, deepwater, and managed pressure drilling operations.
  • Strong understanding of Gulf of America regulatory requirements.
  • Proven leadership in mentoring, risk management, and process safety.
  • Skilled in well planning, cost control, and management of change.
  • Effective communicator with cross-functional collaboration experience.
  • Able to travel up to 25%.
  • Ability to manage complex projects under tight timelines.
  • Must live in or near Houston, TX


Technical Expertise

  • Casing and wellhead recovery, casing design, and cementing.
  • Drilling operations, drillstring component selection, and equipment integrity.
  • Drilling data acquisition, real-time monitoring, and well performance optimization.
  • Rig operations, vessel intake/start-up, and rig workovers.
  • Managed pressure drilling and geohazard/PPFG principles.
  • Risk management, HAZOP, and process safety management.
  • Multi-lateral wells, side-track operations, snubbing, and hydraulic workover.
  • Common process for wells’ activities and compliance with OMS and company standards.
