Location: Downtown / Urban Properties
Position Type: Non-Exempt, At-Will (Overtime Eligible under Minnesota Law)
Reports To: Seasonal Color & Gardening Production Manager
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Seasonal Color & Gardening Crew Lead with a strong work ethic, solid organizational skills, and a hands-on leadership style. This role leads crews responsible for maintaining large gardens and unique horticultural sites, while also performing core gardening and landscape maintenance tasks.
Crew Leads are trained in gardening and horticultural best practices and play a key role in delivering high-quality seasonal color installations and ongoing garden care. Additional responsibilities may include turf maintenance, shrub pruning, portering, annual care, and light landscaping.
Our Seasonal Color & Gardening Division delivers highly detailed services to distinctive downtown urban landscapes. Comfort driving and parking commercial trucks in busy metropolitan environments is required.

Key Responsibilities Staff & Crew Leadership

Direct Seasonal Color crews in the maintenance of gardens, vertical gardens, and landscaped areas

Ensure tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and within estimated timelines

Demonstrate strong plant knowledge and a willingness to train and mentor team members

Foster a positive, collaborative, and respectful work environment

Assist the Production Manager with ongoing crew training and performance development
Production & Garden Management
-
Complete seasonal color installations and ongoing annual care
-
Perform turf maintenance, shrub pruning, weeding, portering, and light landscaping
-
Coordinate daily activities and learning opportunities across assigned sites

Help create engaging urbanscape environments that attract and inspire

Identify material, tool, and supply needs at customer sites

Ensure properties consistently meet or exceed client expectations

Follow up on site issues and communicate concerns as needed

Assist with organization, cleaning, and upkeep of facilities, equipment, and vehicles
Safety & Compliance

Demonstrate safe operation, care, and handling of all tools and equipment

Ensure crews follow site-specific safety protocols, especially on rooftop gardens

Comply with OSHA standards and all company safety policies

Comply with all federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA, ADA, and Clean Indoor Air Act requirements
What We’re Looking For Qualifications & Skills
-
Valid driver’s license with ability to maintain a clean driving record
-
DOT certification preferred
-
Strong leadership abilities with effective communication skills

Basic to intermediate horticultural knowledge of annuals, perennials, and woody plants
-
Working knowledge of plant identification, health, and cultural requirements

Knowledge of pruning techniques, planting, and basic gardening tools
-
Horticulture degree or certificate preferred
-
Minnesota Category A & E Pesticide Applicator License (or willingness to obtain)

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform manual labor in outdoor environments
