Job Overview:

The Pre-Operative/Post-Operative Registered Nurse, operating under the guidance of the PACU Manager or the Director of Nursing, is tasked with delivering peri-operative care to patients. This role adheres to established nursing practices, regulatory guidelines, and the core mission, vision, and values of our organization. The nurse will provide both direct and indirect care to patients of all ages, employing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in line with facility policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Effectively delegates tasks while overseeing ancillary staff in the planning, execution, monitoring, and assessment of patient care in pre-operative and post-operative settings, adhering to accepted standards.
  • Delivers direct patient care in designated clinical areas, showcasing clinical proficiency.
  • Engages in service recovery by taking responsibility for issues and resolving them, while keeping patients informed and providing comfort and assistance throughout the process.
  • Reviews the daily schedule and organizes patient care areas based on the types of procedures and specific patient requirements.
  • Communicates necessary status changes to physicians, family members, and other team members.
  • Initiates physical and psychosocial assessments and develops pre-operative care plans, ensuring informed consent is obtained from patients.
  • Conducts and documents pre-operative interviews, gathers essential diagnostic test results, and alerts relevant physicians and staff about any variances or concerns.
  • Completes the Post-anesthesia record and ensures all patients meet discharge criteria before leaving; provides post-operative instructions to all patients.
  • Contributes to the delivery of high-quality clinical care by participating in benchmarking programs.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Must demonstrate eligibility for employment within the U.S.
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program with a current and valid nursing license from the State Board of Nursing.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in an ICU, Emergency Room, Recovery Room, or other critical care nursing settings is required.
  • Familiarity with State, Federal, and Accrediting Body regulations and standards related to healthcare is essential.
  • Must be able to obtain CPR, ACLS, and PALS certifications within 60 days of employment.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with others.
  • Proficient in verbal and written English communication to ensure safe patient care and meet documentation standards.
  • Willingness to engage in goal-setting and educational opportunities for professional growth.
  • Awareness of professional nursing standards and commitment to adhering to them.
